lol. This exchange has now gone beyond surreal. Letting your kids listen to anything, watch anything, skip class, drink, screw, superman, and whatever are all fine. What's problematic is
judging that choice. It is truly a world gone mad.
Curious how your criticism of my parenting approach isn't "holier than thou," whereas my criticism of yours is. How does that work exactly?
My post didnt mention your name. You likely have a guilty conscience. I admire that fact that you do not allow your guilty conscience to detract from your all or nothing extremist ultra wack view points such as listening to rap = "screwing the football team". That's talent!
lol...I don't remember making that particular point, but it's nice to be recognized anyway.
Forgive me for assuming that you may have been referencing my "all or nothing extremist ultra wack view points" when you made your holier-than-thou comment. Whatever could I have been thinking?
I choose to not allow my kids to listen to music with overt sexual or debased content, because in my experience there is a very strong correlation between over-permissiveness and real-life risky conduct. That's my choice. You choose differently. Good for you. I never told you that you were ignorant. I never said that your day of redemption wouldn't be pretty. Because unlike you, I don't claim to have any idea about your life and your kids. Your decisions might work just fine for you.
My arguments have pertained to large numbers...probabilities. That's all. In general, allowing kids access to debased material--in effect mainstreaming that material--will lead to a higher probability of risky behavior. And suggestions by you and others that the choice is outcome-neutral (or worse, that such permissiveness leads to better outcomes) are farcical. Calling me ignorant, or an extremist, or holier-than-thou, doesn't shore up the weakness of your argument in the slightest. Tell me what benefit a young girl gets from listening to a song about men using ejaculate to humiliate a woman, or conversely, what harm is caused by parental prohibition of this. Then you will have at least made an argument.
Now, on to new topics before grammy starts rapping again. Ahhh, I know...Fresno festivities. After we're done beating the shit out of each other, let's tip a few, shall we?
