Zig Ziegler? I thought he was a motivational speaker, wait, check that, that's Zig Ziglar.

Yea, I have a number of his tapes. I wondered what he was doing now. :?

Sadly, Zig Ziglar met his maker recently...a victim of a horrendous Zagging accident.

With all due respect to the Ziglar family, does this mean that my collection of Ziggy's tapes are now worth something?

anything under 18 is too young, unless you are in Haiti or Alabama...

Fair question. My DD, at 9 years old, was practicing with her team T, Th, and Sat....Pitching lessons on Wed....Batting lessons on Fri....Games on Sunday....We practiced pitching in the back yard on Monday.

I purchased weighted balls...but she never threw them....we used them to build up strength in her wrist....she would dangle her arm and rotate her wrist while holding the weighted ball.

Parents are nearly the entire problem....

Sam, excuse my newby'ism ... I know only of your DD's overuse injuries from what I've pieced together in the posts where it comes up .... My questions are, are you saying you were the entire problem here ? ... Where you living vicariously through your daughter ?( as is often the case with over zealous parents ) ... Was any of her over work 'her' eagerness to please her Dad, or was it her eagerness to compete and excell ? ... Its human nature to be blinded by ambitions ... be they your own ambitions or those you have for others ....

I was the entire problem. I wasn't living vicariously through her accomplishments, but I certainly enjoyed being wooed by teams who wanted her to come over to their team. Her overwork was totally an attempt to please me, though she does enjoy the competition.

I began pitching her less as an older 12 and into 14's, as I had some excellent pitchers (one pitching at University of Louisiana, Monroe and the other at Cal State San Bernardino). She kept trying to pitch at 16U and Gold, but she was pretty much done after 14U. Each time she tried to pitch after 14's, she was in excruciating pain...she took ibuprofen and rubbed some chinese ointment on her arm in addition to going to physical therapy twice a week at 6:00AM prior to going to school. She never played an inning of varsity softball in HS.....though she was still being recruited by DII schools.

She's going to JC now and works a couple of jobs. Wants to go go Cal Baptist eventually.

And she hates you? Loves you? Blames you ... Don't answer if it hurts, I'm not trying to be an A-hole ..... but I offer this: ... When DD's were younger ... starting when the oldest was maybe 9 or 10, then 8, 6 and 4 & 4 ... they were all interested in bluegrass music ... and I was interested in what ever they were interested in ... and drinking beer .. so, we started traveling around on weekends to Bluegrass Festivals and Fiddlers Conventions ... then they wanted to play music compete ...They won money and trophies etc etc etc .... Well, we did that for years until some went to college and the younger ones interests changed to Fastpitch .... ALL of my 5 DD's have fond memories of those times except the 2nd oldest, who remembers those years as me torturing them ... I was just trying to support them ... and it hurts when she says those things ..... but often, I know she says things to hurt me for some reason .... then, the next day she tells me how much she loves me and hugs all over ... go figure .........

Since were all sharing here... I'm the oldest in my family. When I was 9 years old, my family moved to a new neighborhood which also meant a new school. The neighborhood was a lot nicer than the one we moved from, but I hated it. I went from a large school where I had a lot of friends to a small school with kids who had already made their alliances and I was an outsider. So I hung out with the other rejects, and without going into too many details, it affected the course of my childhood and early adult life. Just recently, nearly 40 years after the family made that move (and Mom and Dad still live there) I had a discussion with my Dad about how much I hated that school and the neighborhood. He was shocked. He didn't have a clue.
