One of the dads on my team, big into hitting, has followed the mlb/rotational swing conversations since the beginning, he has an 'oops' daughter, 9 years old, while the rest of us old farts have our youngest in high school. They practice out in the park in front of my house, he has those kids at this young age, 8,9 and so, working on the mlb swing now - and he has all the details down pat. I have always cheated and used Steve E. and Mark H. 's help, my focus has had to be on other parts of the game, over the years. Its going to be fun to watch that group develop over the years.

As I stated "Squish the bug" is an overly simplified term, but you will be hard press to find a MLB hitter who at the start of his swing the toes on his back leg are pointing in the general direction of the plate. Upon the completion of the swing these same toes are pointing in the general direction of the pitcher. "Squish the bug" overly simplified, yes, giving a younger hitter an idea of the action involved, this is true too.

The rotational hitting techniques that have been spwen forth here and on other like sites.By these backyard hitting gurus and the wanna be physics experts have been as far away from the major league swing as a blindman trying to descripe what a elephant looks like by touching its tail.Not in any major league baseball field or in any Div1 top softball programs have I heard any of the jargon that these rotational geeks (gurus) spew.

Norcal you are right that most MLB hitter or major D1 coach doesn't use that jargon, but most of the good coaches teach a rotational type hitting style. Is rotational hitting best? For my DD ,yes, but she's a big strong and slow girl, 5'10" 175lbs. If she was 5'3" 110lbs and fast as lighting, a more lineral style might be better for her. You still can't get past the fact that the most feared hitters out there are rotational. Although I have never seen her swing a bat, I would be willing to bet the girl who just broke the CA homerun record is a rotational hitter , but I would also bet that the girl who has the highest batting average is more lineral type swing.

Has to be. Power from rotational and consistancy from linear.

If you think words like kinetic link ,fish hook,scap load angular speed gain ect. ect. ect. belong in your vocab or in your head when you are teaching or trying to hit a ball with a bat,you should click on the link on donnie s. post and digg into the word world of rocket science being taught by 2nd graders.
