Top 5 Movies

The Shawshank Redemption is probably the movie that I most often see listed as a favorite. I wonder how many people have actually read the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," which, amazingly enough, blows the movie away.

It's from the book "Different Seasons," which contains four novellas. Also made into a movie from the book: Stand By Me (from "The Body"), and Apt Pupil ("Apt Pupil"). Mr. King made a little bit o' cash from that particular effort.

Speaking of which, I almost listed The Shining among my honorable mentions, but I already had two Kubrick films in there.

The book was much better than the movie, kudos to Jack Nicolson, but the hedge animals vs the maze, creepy.

King explained Kubrick's version of The Shining this way..."I felt I provided him with some hand grenades....and he selflessly threw his body onto them"

I just thought of another one my favorites, and oldie - To Kill A Mockingbird. Great movie and book. It's one of my trio of oldies I love to watch - with Casablanca and North By Northwest.

Agree about the book, but Jack Nicolson bores the sxxx out of me, his overacting ruins any picture with him in it for me. Back to the book, I read very little fiction but the Shining is one that I consider one of the best 'cant put it down' books I have ever read.

That's the affect that Harrison Ford has on me. He plays exactly the same character in every movie he's in. Kevin Costner too.

I liked Nicholson in "As Good as it Gets."
