College Prospect Camp Attendance

What's on your mind?

by Fastpitch4Life » Tue Dec 13, 2016 12:08 pm

Curious about how many camp visits did your DD make (and you paid for) to the same college prior to either commiting, signing or attending that college? I'm told that these elite prospect camps are fundraisers for assistant coaches but wonder if the payoff is there to pay for multiple visits? What's your experience?

The term Elite Prospect Camp is somewhat of a misnomer. All Camps are fundraisers to an extent. They don't have them simply for exercise or just recruiting efforts...
Remember 'hope' is a terrible tactic.

But one sure way to not be chosen is choosing to not be seen I guess...

To answer your question though...My dependent went to 2 of those if I remember correctly

The thing I find strange is after a kid has verballed that some coaches try to get them to come to camps. Really? How about I just send you the cost of the camp as a donation instead of making parents travel across the country. If you offered the kid what do you need to see.

I have been told that a very well known So Cal coach/org founder doesn't let his older kids go to such a camp unless he is assured there is an offer awaiting!

Daughter verballed last year. For her she was blessed to have one of the best travel ball coaches and founder make the calls. He made sure there was very serious interest or already an offer prior to asking if we were interested in going.

So with our experience, I wouldn't suggest going unless your daughter was invited and your coach has been contacted by the college. That's just my opinion.

I will say I personally know several girls who weren't on a P5s radar who were contacted before they left the camp and committed, basically on the spot.
Now this was an open, non 'school' affiliated exposure camp.
In parts of the country who don't have large exposure events within a few minutes drive, and/or a large org selling them, a Camp may,(or may not) be the only way to be seen...

Results may vary I guess...

Somebody needs a decaf and a happy pill this morning.

Sam, no one on here created the system thats in place, some may feed it but we didnt create it....and not all of us are by category as unhappy about the Sport as you are....It isnt perfect, never gonna be...Nor do we all like all of it, but it is what it is...
Getting all bitchy and grumpy wont help folks out with their questions
I GUARANTEE someone if coaches dont see their kids, they wont be recruited, thats fact....and unless you can pull out some magic recruiting dust from your 4th POC , camps CAN be helpful tools.........

Bring something constructive or get the hell off the post. No one needs you to answer every question posed on this Board. If you have experience in this area, please share, but don't trot out that sorry crap..."parents have ruined my sport" because their daughter has the skill and desire to play at the next level.

I thought you left this Board in a huff because #1 hurt your little feelings. So don't go away mad, just go away. If posters can't ask constructive questions here about travel softball without your editorial and mostly feeble responses, then what is the point of this website? To bad mouth travel softball? I don't think the founders of this site would agree.
