How has Travel/Club sports affected the family?

What's on your mind?

by CoachMike » Tue Nov 15, 2016 3:09 pm

Did you used to attend church every Sunday? Now you don't because every Sunday is a tournament or friendly. If you're a parent with multiple kids in sports, are you having to divide your family in different directions? Or does one kid have to wait their turn while the other plays his/her sport?

Tomorrow on Kidz "n" Sports, my guest will be former La Mirada High School head softball coach Rich Trujillo. We will be discussing the impact that travel/club sports has had on the family. Is it positive, negative, or no effect? You can share your story by sending me an email at coachmike@kidznsports.com.

Kidz "n" Sports airs every Wed. at 9 AM Pacific time on the internet at http://www.adrenalineradio.com. If you miss the live show, the podcast is usually up by the weekend. Hope you can tune in.

Gotta admit, it was a strain on us...but thats history...
One thing to take into consideration is that not all TB is the same for everyone nationwide...some think travel is anything over...50 miles...
Our last year anything under 300 miles was considered local...

That's a good point. Different parts of the country you might have to drive 20 miles to find another team.

Wow, that's crazy. Yes I know it happens... didn' t know that far.

One team my daughter was on a team which had a kid who would come down to So Cal from Fresno or Bakersfield. Sorry, that's just crazy.

TB has definitely changed the dynamics of our family, but it has enhanced it in many ways. With a dd playing softball and a son in baseball, we often have to divide and conquer with tournaments in different cities. What has helped the other parent being away from the other child, we have both teams on GameChanger, which gives us the opportunity to "watch" both games. This weekend, I was at Surf City with my daughter in SoCal, but was able to watch my son's championship game in Vegas (and vice versa for my husband). I love the beauty of technology and when we finally come together, there is a lot that we talk about at the dinner table. We not only talk about their games, but life lessons that come with playing at this level.

Wouldn't change it for the world ... but I sure wish it didn't cost so much.

Yes I wouldn't trade it either. I miss our travel ball trips... well, most of them.

Glad you have found a way to stay connected. I'm sure it doesn't beat face-to-face but it looks like you've found a way to enhance the face-to-face when you have it.....
