SHOULD I JOIN BATBUSTERS OR FIRECRACKERS

What's on your mind?

by mr hate » Sun Nov 20, 2016 1:55 pm

People let me ask you a question. Is it worth joining The Firecrackers or Batbusters organization?

Is it worth my $2000 start up fee plus my $400 a month organizational fee (16 girls at $25 per girl a month).

If I join their orgs does Tony or Mike come run my practice? NO
Teach my girls to become better softball players? NO
Or do they just steal my pitchers to keep their teams stacked and don't do shit for us? STEAL and don't do shit for other teams

Im just wondering cause I see all the Batbusters and Firecrackers teams out there. About a 100 of them suck and Mike and Tony are the only good teams. But you suckers keep joining up.

So tell me, what am I missing by not wearing a Firecracker or Batbuster uniform?

IM MR HATE

Then tell me why most of the top players in college were former crackers or busters. If you go to a showcase why are all the coaches watching crackers or busters? Quality of players that come from those orgs. If you look at most brackets at the end of most tourneys, it's crackers or busters in quarters and finals. What, your dd didn't make a cracker or buster team?

Here is my opinion based on what I am seeing: Organizations (many of them at this point) that have a name and reputation for attracting good players and in turn getting them placed into quality NCAA programs, have earned the reputation over time as a source for talent for the colleges. So they get the invitations to many of the best and most sought after showcase placements. Programs are many: Batbusters, Firecrackers, Jersey Intensity, Birmingham T Bolts and numerous others who have franchised their name. Programs recognize the power of their name and have begun to franchise out their names to other states and in some cases, not necessarily great groups of talent, so as to open doors to the best showcases for those teams while cashing in financially. I'm sure that isn't news. For the athlete, particularly those who may not be able to make Tony or Mike's team, a second tier opportunity offers that same or comparable opportunity....in principle at least. And it is a money grab for the programs, no doubt. My personal opinion is that if they were able to maintain a high level of talent in these franchised teams, it would have some genuine value to the colleges and the players on those teams but I've found very often these franchised teams are not often, top tier teams but rather teams that benefit from the name but do not help the name. So the use of the name helps get teams that talent wise may never have gotten in Colorado IDT for example. I think that is the (perceived) value. I think with the name comes an expectation of some level of quality, thus the value. I saw a Firecrackers team in FL this past weekend. Decent but nothing exceptional. But the NAME makes you think at least there is a chance it is a good team.....rather than if they were called the Florida Sunshine or something benign.

Uh because they're on every field.
Uh because it's hard not to play with one of those orgs because they have so many teams.

Proud to say neither daughter played for either

Both organizations have definitely been watered down over the past few years and it's getting more difficult to figure out which ones are legit, and which ones are just paying for the name. You use to be able to know which is which based on the coaches that are tagged to it, but now coaches are willing to let developing teams use their names, too. IMHO, it does nothing for the sport. Nowadays, anyone can be a Firecracker or Batbuster. Last season, dd played in a friendly against a buster, a cracker, and A's team, and all three were mediocre, rec all-star teams at best. It was definitely a waste of a Sunday.

From a coaches perspective, I ran an independent team for several years with much success. We built it from the bottom up and were very competitive with the big boys once we became established. At one point we placed 14 girls in 2 years and then the cupboard ran dry. At that point it became extremely difficult to reload with the completion from Firecracker, Batbuster teams et al. I've spent the last few years with a couple of small organizations and we typically run into the same problem. It's simply tough to get players to take a look at what we have to offer. And when you develop players but can't keep enough talent around them they typically move on to the bigger names. That's why so many coaches, with strong or still developing coaching skills, gravitate toward the big org names. That may be the only way to get a shot at enough talented players to consistently put a competitive team out there. It is was it is. If you can't beat 'em you may as well join 'em. But you're going to pay for the privilege. I'm not complaining, just saying.

The same scenario exists in Texas too. You have Tx Glory, Tx Glory Adkins, Tx Bombers, Impact Gold, Aces Express, Tx Blaze with many many teams in each age category. Don't fool yourself. Only the Gold team in each age group is the one they care about. The rest are satellite teams that feed the beast.
