In case it rains again this weekend in SoCal and everyone's going crazy... with the Team USA coach job open (with Candrea leaving)...

What is the best job in softball? And why?

Who has the best job in softball? And why?

You define the parameters.

Coaching TB? Coaching college? or HS? Running TB Org? Div 1 Top 25 coach? Small college? Teaching / lessons? Running tournaments?
Others, or some combination of the above?

The best job in softball is umpiring.

I've told my job many times "You guys really interfere with my career as an umpire".

Here's why. If you can get 30 people to pay you $60/hr weekly that's $1800/week. working 40 weeks a year that's $72,000. The best part is that you really don't need a facility, especially in warm weather climates, and you don't even have to know what you are doing as along as you can convince just 30 people you know what you are doing. If you can put in groups of 5 or 6 then you are only working 10-12 hours a week. Sounds like a heck of a job, its more than I make now with less work . I think I just convinced myself into quitting my job and start to teach hitting and pitching. I have plenty of experince, DD has played for several years. If anyone is interested in lessons just let me know.

The best job in softball is being a dad. You get to watch you DD play a game that she loves, get out of those honey-dews and get to travel on the weekends. It’s really not a job but that’s not what I am telling my wife.

I enjoy coaching.....

1. Everybody is always commenting on how they can do your job better than you....As they sit in the stands.

2. All of your mistakes are seen by all.

3. It's always your fault!

4. All great plays made are not because you had anything to do with their training.

5. All of your "Good" moves are always missed.

6. No pressure.....JUST WIN BABY!

But, once you have gained the respect of the girls that you are coaching.....No better feeling than that is there?

I am an instructor and I have had 2 lessons this week. That is $40.00. Why so few lessons? It has rained and sleeted here, in the desert.

Also, the kids are still in school and that only gives us about an hour and a half of daylate in the evening.

And, if it is below 65 degrees, parents start calling and saying it is too cold.

Then, there is everything in the world that interferes with lessons. One was cancelled this week because her sister had basketball regionals. One competes in piano recitals and she had a 3 day play off last week.

Weekends never had very many lessons because that are when the games are - so, no. This isn't the perfect job either.

Anyway, if I was making a salary at this, my husband would make me declare it on my taxes and there goes my profit.

I'm available to give lessons. Your kid won't learn a damn thing (useful) about softball, but she'll come out of it the world's 2nd biggest smartass. That's gotta be worth something I would think.

I think sitting on a bucket in the backyard drinking a beer while catching is the best job ... our Lab fetchs anything that gets by me, I spend time with DD and take a trip without leaving the farm ...
