Throw rocks maybe...
The whole premise of ASA attempting to corner the 'Olympic market' in case Softball is allowed back in the Olympics is counter productive to the sport altogether...because thats what it is...Wanna play i Olympics?...Gotta pay homage to ASA bank roll....

Wonder what the price tag is for a seat on the US Olympic team per bench warmer will be if you buy it straight away vs actually earning it?...

Not sure of current wording but ASA used to say that at the end of each season a team's account should zero out with any remaining monies being dispersed. Sure they say the money can't go to the players but were will it go, the coach's pocket?

If any piece of any prize money ends up spent in any athletes pocket, it seems that would take away her Amateur status ... I see this as a fuster cluck but agree with JR ... Don't like it, don't go ... Let those in the fray figure it out ... But 6 G's ?

In VA there is very little ASA for fastpitch ... We are mostly NSA

I'm sure ASA has gone over the maintaining of amateur status rules for NCAA play for this payout tournament, but how do they around these areas?

-Receiving compensation that exceeds actual and necessary expenses (such as travel or lodging, etc.) when competing as an amateur

-Accepting prize money that exceeds actual and necessary expenses

You can say the money is going to the organization, but isn't the organization made up of the player's families? And if not, why would the players and families play in a tournament in order to fatten the wallets of the organization head?

Maybe I am missing something, I am just killing time here in the hotel room before going out to watch my kid play some college ball.

The "org" is comprised of whomever they said when it was set up. I don't see it being an issue if the org is separate from the players/families and the money isn't used in a way that violates NCAA rules. I don't know whether other orgs would have issues holding onto surplus funds.

12.1.2.4.3 Exception for Payment Based on Team Performance. An individual may accept payment from his or her amateur team or the sponsor of the event based on his or her team’s place finish or performance, or given on an incentive basis (e.g., bonus), provided the combination of such payments and expenses provided to the individual does not exceed his or her actual and necessary expenses to participate on the team. The calculation of actual and necessary expenses shall not include the expenses or fees of anyone other than the individual (e.g., coach’s fees or expenses, parent’s expenses). (Adopted: 10/28/10, Revised: 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13)

I think the org isn't limited to just this event for reimbursing allowable expenses. They could also reimburse for previous team events (e.g. CO, FL, NJ, etc.) and/or refund money paid to the team/org.
