A few years back, I had a kid that really wanted to go to a particular school. She would call the coach's office and leave messages, and when they wouldn't answer, she would leave a date and time when she would call again. She would do this weekly. The player and coach finally connected on the phone and the player had a ton of questions for the coach about the program and school, the player was prepared for the call.
The coach showed up to one of the showcases and asked me about this particular player. The coach told me the story about all their communications (with a smile on her face) and she had to come watch her play. She was impressed by her performance and invited her to a camp. The player ended up attending the school.
The funny part of the story was a few months after the player committed I ran into the coach at another showcase and she asked me to relay a message to the player that she can stop calling.
This is one story on how it worked for a player, I know most coaches will not take calls, schedules do not allow it.
Many players have turned to snail mail because most coaches get 100's of emails a week.
