No one ever answers that question, and believe me, I have brought that up.
Masks are not perceived as cool. Apparently cups for guys, wrist protection and shin/foot protection are. I have not seen many players get hit in the nuts, shins, or wrists, and not one hit that I have witnessed has been serious. Still, no one questions the toughness of a person wearing those items.
If a college doesn’t like players that wear masks, just put that statement on your recruit questionnaire. Problem solved, right?
Lastly, saying you cannot see out of a mask is a cop out. (Or, maybe the person making that argument just can’t see very well, and needs glasses.) If masks were that difficult to see out of, how could so many good batters wear them, with no problems?
