There's no way he went that long on a "ruptured" archilles tendon. The two people I saw rupture their archilles fell to the ground like they were shot. I hope the judge throws this out and makes the coach play the legal fees of the player

I been hit by a lot more than thrown helmets and a lawsuit never crossed my mind or 'made some sense'. Being aware of whats going on around me - is my responsibility, specially at a sports event.

Sounds more like an insurance claim than a lawsuit.
Saw the coach on tv and now he says he just wants an apology from the family.

If they apologize, it could be taken as an admission of guilt. Wouldn't the insurance cover this by the sanctioning body or is there a statute of limitation on the time frame to file?

What I was talking about was "if" the kid had thrown the helmet and hit the guy that the parents would be responsible to pay for medical expenses( if not covered by insurance). Of course depending how the helmet was thrown. Etc .... To Donnie's point, injuries that occur from the normal course of play are a different story. ie. a coach being hit by a batted ball vs a player hitting a coach on purpose with a bat. Ll insurance will cover on but not the other

We will just have to disagree. A helmet thrown at the game probably did not rupture the Achilles. Big dumb and clumsy coaches fat gut was more likely the source of the rupture. He should sue McDonalds.

The parents did apologize, they have it on camera. They say they apologized to his face as soon as they heard of his injury.

It is not about an apology. It is about cashing in.

It came over the news around here as ll coach sues over thrown helmet(or something like that). Watching the video link to the interview I think this guy is way out of line. Should be thrown in jail for wasting the courts time just because he's a clumsy oaf.

I was simply saying that depending on the circumstances that parents could be held liable of the actions of their kids

ie. If a player purposely hits a coach with a bat.
Player purposely throws at coaches head
Etc,etc......

Injuries due the regular course of play are dangers inherent to the sport

Also, as stated earlier, it sound unlikely he ruptured his archilles at that time and then kept going for six months.

Enter the field of play at your own risk! Just a coach thinking of cashing in on a kid or his parents is shameful at best. This guy is a pathetic POS. Unfortunately you see more crap like this every day. So until we do something about it be prepared for more of the same. It is a sad day when our children will have to think before doing anything for the fear of repercussions. Don't celebrate your victory just run quietly around the bases and pick up your participation trophy.

This is the part I am not getting. I expect there to be bats on the ground. You step over them. Do it all the time.

The once or twice I have been hit by a ball at a game coaching, it was very much my own dumb fault. Either not standing in a place that was safe, or not paying attention.

The real reason this happened is the pos wasn't responsible enough to have health insurance and wants someone else to pay for his medical care. Vast majority of the ambulance chasers business comes from this exact thing.
