20 on my DD's team, up from 17 last year. Graduated 4 and brought in 7 freshmen.

We are steady at 18. Before daughter played college ball, I thought these large rosters were a nightmare for everyone. Now 18 seems really on the small side. They have definitely been limited on intersquad stuffs because of injuries.

I never really paid attention so I had to look it up. Last season, her final, had 18 players on the roster according to the website. I guess that's a good number huh?

My daughter is in her junior year.

The year before she got there they had 17. Not sure how many they started with in the fall.

Her freshman year they had 28. My daughter had a large recruiting class and they had several transfers as well. Everybody was miserable in the fall as they saw the writing on the wall. They ended up with 16 healthy players by the end of the next spring. Most of those that left transferred at semester, a couple quit the team but remained with the school, one senior had a major injury that she decided to not rehab back from, and one developed a non-softball related illness that took her out of the game.

Her sophomore year they had 24. They retained most of the players last year. I cannot remember anyone leaving. Because of roster constraints several of them never suited up for a single game but weren't redshirted either.

This fall I am not sure of the exact number that were there but it seemed like about 26 or 27. They have had four quit the team as the fall scrimmages winded down. My daughter says there will be at least one more and maybe as many as three more who are indicating they are looking at leaving at semester. One that quit was a shock. She was my daughter's best friend on the team the whole time she has been at school. A two time first team all conference pitcher in her senior year. She could not make it work with her major and she did not want to spend an additional year in school.

Basically it seems like her coach over recruits every year and then basically they fight it out for playing time from there. While not a big time program in a power conference he has been successful with this approach winning 30 some games every year at a place that was a perennial doormat before he got there.
