The Cost of Travel Ball…a classic....re-visited

What's on your mind?

by sftball1 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 3:24 pm

Very nice Donnie! Mine is still in college but has said she wants to coach the younger girls once she gets out. The few times she's helped out with younger kids, she really liked it and it made me feel good to see her being so patient and kind with some of the kids. Especially since she's not that patient or kind to her little brother! But I definitely think it builds character and I wouldn't trade it for the world!!

Started on that message over 10 years ago. Seems to have worked - no interest. Let her get 2 more in each ear. Won't even complain if she does the belly ring, as long as there is no ink.

Thanks PDad for digging this one out on the Heybucket Classics post.
Well that day for us is this Thursday, although I think my kid has been ready to go for about the last 6 months.
I'm sure it will start to sink in when we get back home without her the following Monday.
For now I'm feeling excited and melancholy at the same time.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Congratulations, Art, its a very exciting, confusing, satisfying, jealousy-generating, challenging time. Like you have heard here a million times, what she is about to face is the real world. The real world where connections, hard work, money (yours and others), luck, talent, politics beyond all comprehension (keep remembering - it is the real world), is all it takes. My girls both tell me they are having the most fun they have ever had in athletics, DD1 told me the same thing when she was at the big school, she loved her teammates and coaches there - and still does, and now both DD1 and DD2 tell me the same thing about the present school. The girls told me in the last couple of weeks (one of the few moments they weren't working out or at the beach) that their teammates mean the world to them and they thank God everyday that they get to 1) go to school with them, 2) play softball with them , and 3) party with them. I pray that your kid enjoys college as much as they do.

Tomorrow,,Monday :D
She's a lil nervous,,The SUV is packed, and her room is clean! :o
I have had about 5 talks with her this week, in regards to her future.
Some have been firm, as in don't "F" up, this is your shot, your life.,,,btw we are changing the locks.
Others have been reassuring, like we are only 1hr 30min away, consider it Camp Snoopy.
It's kinda like HS,,,120units for BA, 15units a semester, get the basics in first, ect.ect. We can be there in a heart beat, but you need to time manage.
For myself and dw,,,softball was an outlet for our only child. It was fun, and would teach her things she would not learn without a group sport. As she got older, it became a way to keep her busy and out of trouble or away from the dark side,(it can be so inviting). It was never about getting a scholarship. For her and us it was about playing and doing well, not sitting, but continuing to improve to stay on the field. to be a part of something.
This sport or way of life has a price.,,,she practiced alot,,sometimes we paid for instructions, but most of the time, her and I went it alone on an open field. (quality time)
So while she may be nervous about moving away, we as parents have made it to the place we always wanted her to be.
Her going to college.

But, what was the rank of your DD's 12U team? :o

where are all the grandpa's that like to derail threads now?

Come on now, who cares about DD's going to college? My daughter is going into 14U, that's all that matters, isn't it! Me, me, me, mine, mine, mine, narcissism be damned! I mean, my daughter is not even in High School, so, this thread is no business to me. But instead of just reading and enjoying the heartwarming story by SBH (thanks by the way), I think I'll post some gibberish and sarcasm since that is what we're suppose to do here on HB as the "elders" (thread bombers?) of the board have shown us the way in other threads.

Stay positive my friends and when I do, I drink Glenlivet (preferably the XXV).

;)
