I know it's hard to believe. I was blown away by the results also. We were at 5 Star Sports Academy in Fountain Valley CA in mid September. She threw 15 fastballs measured by a Bushnell radar gun. Half were 41-43 the other half 45mph. She threw a 10" ball that day just before batting practice. During Fountain Valley Winter rec-ball Dani dominated the 8U division, which traditionally has some very strong teams Trabuco Hills, Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo, West Grove. Many of those teams were moving up to 10's. Look at her video, it will give you an idea of her ability. Her hitting is outstanding also. She lead the team in hitting. The team had 7 girls moving up to 10's. Her batting AVG was .429 her SLG was .667 and her OPS 1.238. By the way my other kid was playing for Nemesis this weekend. #3 one hopped one to the left center fence during the game against Crush in her first at bat. She is also incredibly strong and incredibly talented. Little sis wants to be like big sis.

I'm not saying that she doesn't look good for a 8U player (I thought 8U was coach pitch?), she looks better than most (but not all) 10U pitchers that I've seen, but how far do they pitch from? 35 feet? Maybe 30? (it looks closer than 35 in the video to me). Regardless, that doesn't look like 45 mph to me, but it's hard to tell much on youtube, so it may just be the video quality.

I would not get all worked up about 8U and 10U pitchers. Girls grow up, things change and situations change. One of the best lock down 10U pitchers I ever saw doesn't pitch 4 years later. She couldn't make the transition to 40 feet and the 12 inch ball. She went from being one of the best in the state at 10U to being very average at 12U. She peaked at 10U.

Another girl was bigger than everyone else and was a fearsome 10U pitcher. She threw hard and was just wild enough that she would hit a kid every once in a while. She the kind pitcher that kids were wanting to go back to the dugout after 2 strikes. Well the other girls grew up and she was no longer quite as fearsome. She was no longer pitching by the second year of 12U. Again, she could not make the transition to the longer distance. She also peaked at 10U.

These stories may not be the norm, but are not uncommon either. I would wait until at least 14U before I started dreaming about a D-1 scholarship.

Some of you are just mean, give this poor guy a break. He's new to all of this with young kids. At least he spends the time and thinks highly of his daughters. He will eventually grow in this sport and humble, just as we all have.

Not one of you could honestly say you have never chest-thumped before. And even if you said it, you're lying.

Ok here is the deal there is a calculation you can use to figure out the speed based on the time it takes the ball to travel from the hand to the glove based on the distance

Lets say it's 30 ft being that she's pushing off and maybe the distance was closer @ 8U


30 ft * (1/5280ft) * (seconds per hour {3600 / .62} seconds time I got for the delivery)= 32.9912 MPH

Very respectable for an 8 year old and right were she needs to be.

It's respectable but nothing to be blown away by at that age. Babe Ruth rec all-star tournament play in the 8u division sets the slingshot pitching machines to 32.5 MPH. I only know this because I coached an 8u rec BR team last year and while our league was coach pitch in the spring in the fall the league decided to go machine pitch and try to field a BR 8u all-star team next spring (I was opposed to this but I won't coach 8u next year). Once my kids got used to the machine they had no problem hitting it. Of course, throw a kid in there who throws slightly faster and doesn't put a perfect strike over every time and it might be a different story.
