Coaches who engage in retribution should be sued. OC Lionettes Gold did this to one of my players. She went on to a 4 year career at the Big 10 school she had committed to as a sophomore. The college coach saw through this "icon's" bitter tirade about loyalty. She switched from the Lionettes to the Rookies team I was coaching at the time during the fall season. That coach was and is a POS.

I've always hated the way Sam beats around the bush, stammering and hemming and hawing his way to a point.

Agreed - he is going to have to move his light out from under that basket. :o I don't usually agree with naming names - but in the case he and the other guy named, I would go so far as address, dl# and socsec. Those people need to gtf out this sport and go to basketball where they belong.

If a college coach is that stupid to buy into crap like this, would you really want your DD playing for him/her?

And suing them? Really? This world isn't screwed up enough without putting something so trivial in the court?

If there was ever a red flashing warning light - this would have to be it.

I don't know of any college coach that would buy into this, their program's reputation is too important, but I am sure there are some......

Agreed, but it does plant the seed, or cast a shadow on the player as she enters.
Just the concept of retribution against a player pisses me off.

TB coaches often justify this crap because "their reputation is on the line". Guess it goes past them that everyone knows this always starts when someone leaves their team.

I advise all parents that have gotten/given a verbal commitment to make sure you are in touch regularly with your coach.

Your daughter should have a phone conversation with their coach at least every other other week. If you are getting a ton of static from your kid, about the coach being hard to get hold of, etc. Step in. It goes more than 4 weeks without solid contact of some sort, Step in.

As a part of the verbal commitment discussion let the coach know you will be talking to them once in a while as well. Some coaches act just want to work with the girl. Which is fine/expected. Let them know you want them to develop that relationship with your kid. But you will be following up to make sure that HS Transcripts, NCAA Clearing House, Admissions, Financial Aid, competitive and training, etc are all verified to be on track for your NLI signing. You should touch base with them about once a month.

You don't hear from them for 2 months, time to get very action oriented.

As usual, AI is dead on. Ours surprised us a few times, showed up for high school play off games , and even came to DD2's volleyball play off games. Things get pretty crazy.
