The EFF has been battling the government for the last several year in court. They keep operating with an above-the-law mentality. Go here and read some of the articles they have posted. It'll really make you wonder just what the gov't has been doing.

I guess the basic question here is do you trust the gov't? I know for myself I do not trust them completely. The only reason Mr. Snowden is not "officially" a whistle blower is the gov't makes up the definitions and exceptions determining what is legal or not. Not the courts.

I do not completely trust the government, but I also know there are checks and balances and enough people that raise questions legitimatly. I do not trust a 29 year old that sells secrets to a foreign country and seeks refuge in China.

The biggest deal of this whole story is the "turn-around" in Obama- the NSA survellance is nothing new. Either Obama is a hypocrite who will say anything to get elected or when shown the reasons and the results fof the NSA program felt them so compelling to continue-either reason is pretty sobering

Maybe Edward Snowden should have watched this and asked himself the same question before he took the job.

What Is The Government’s Agenda? — Paul Craig Roberts
It has been public information for a decade that the US government secretly, illegally, and unconstitutionally spies on its citizens. Congress and the federal courts have done nothing about this extreme violation of the US Constitution and statutory law, and the insouciant US public seems unperturbed. Read on..

Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?'
Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?'
Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?'
But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right.

This has been going on since 2001. William Binney and Thomas Drake are heros.
Snowden is simply confirming what has been going on for 12 years.

The Program
Mini Documentary.
The filmmaker Laura Poitras profiles William Binney, a 32-year veteran of the National Security Agency who helped design a top-secret program he says is broadly collecting Americans' personal data.

They complained about it when Bush was in office and Obama extended it May 26, 2011 for another 4 years.

My understanding is they're only allowed to gather records that the phone companies keep for business purposes. I can't think of a business reason for keeping call records on unlimited plans. Will companies now amend their plans or offer new ones where records are not kept of calls?
