One of the golden rules

What's on your mind?

"Don't make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base"

A lead off double is great, no need to stretch it out.

Stealing 3rd with 2 outs with a good hitter at the plate just isn't smart.

Would agree on all but your last one. Depending on where we are in the game. If she safe than it makes it easier to get her in and if she out you have your beats hitter leading off with no outs.

My DD has deceptive speed, she turns triples into doubles... no worries there... :D :o :)

Not sure you understood the OP. Only one rule was listed. The last two sentences were just describing the golden rule: "don't make 1st or 3rd out at 3rd". Also, don't agree with your comment. Why would you want your best hitter leading off (with no one on base) when she has a chance to bat with a runner on 2nd? Barring an unlikely WP, a base hit is needed to score from 2nd or from 3rd. It's not worth the risk with 2 outs.

Getting girls caught stealing trying to steal third with two outs is a favorite among HS coaches- usually with an argument with the ump to follow. Have seen it too many times.

Was just talking about this "rule" the other day. We were playing a top ranked team in the state, losing 1-0 in the 7th when DD hit a leadoff shot to the right field corner. HS coach thought it a good idea to try to stretch it into a triple. DD was out by 10 feet and got a fat lip to boot when she was tagged in the mouth trying to slide around 3B. Next batter up hit a double and the batter after that a sharp single. Needless to say, we didn't score. Coach did say this one's on me afterward...

Maybe he thought your kid was faster than that....I would think that a ball hit to the RF corner would be a triple most of the time.....I know it would in our league.

Not making the first out at third if preferable, but it may have seemed likely that your kid could leg it out to 3B considering this would take two throws to get her.

My point is that maybe your kid stretched a triple into a double.

Now it's time for the second golden rule "Put your best arm in RF since that's the longest throw in the ballpark" . Maybe the kid had plenty of speed, more than likely HS coach had no idea what kind of arm was lurking in RF.

DD is not going to win any races with GONE IN 2.6 's DD, but she's not one of the slower ones either. I was thinking 3 when it was hit as well, but it carommed hard off the 200' fence and right to the RF who was playing deep and on the line. Coach knows DD's speed, she's played for her for 4 years. They did make 2 perfect throws, as I said they are a very good team. The ball was 3/4 of the way to the 2B when DD was rounding second. The point of the "rule" is, if it's going to be close, why take the risk. The runner is already in scoring position and in this case we had our 4 hitter coming up. I like the coach and was not inferring incompetence or anything of that sort, just that a group of us discussed this very thought process after the game. Would you prefer the runner on 3rd with nobody out, sure, but the alternative of 1 out and the bases empty is so much worse, the thinking needs to be, if it's not a pretty sure thing, you don't go for it.

Love ya Sam, always keeping it honest. :ugeek:
