Bank of America Freezes Gun Manufacturer's Account, Company Owner Claims

Bank of America has reportedly frozen the account of gun manufacturer American Spirit Arms, according to its owner, Joe Sirochman.

In a Facebook post dated December 29, Sirochman wrote the following:

“My name is Joe Sirochman owner of American Spirit Arms...our Web site orders have jumped 500 percent causing our Web site e-commerce processing larger deposits to Bank of America. So they decided to hold the deposits for further review.

“After countless hours on the phone with Bank of America, I finally got a manager in the right department that told me the reason that the deposits were on hold for further review -- her exact words were -- ‘We believe you should not be selling guns and parts on the Internet.’”(emphasis added)

Sirochman also wrote that he told the bank manager that “they have no right to make up their own new rules and regs” and that “[American Spirit is a] firearms manufacturer with all the proper licensing.”
He also noted that he has been doing business with Bank of America for over 10 years, but will now be looking for a new bank.

According to Unlawful News, this isn't the first time Bank of America has targeted a customer involved in the firearms industry.

McMillan Group International was reportedly told that its business was no longer welcome after the company started manufacturing firearms – even after 12 years of doing business with the bank.

I used to work for Bank of America- they have had a policy not to do business with gun shops and a limited policy with gun mfg for use(mostly from a risk policy) Also, banks actually do have the right not to deal with certain industries. Many banks do not deal with firearms, jewelry, furs etc, porn etc,,,,,,,, Most of these decisions are based on the risks of a potential industries. Some banks actually develop a specialty in these industries and feel they can manage the risk better. I was actually involved with a case at bank of America for a company that was supplying sniper rifle to the italian Army. All legit, but the bank had declined the business because it was one of its restricted industries

I guess I should not be surprised for a bank that is based in San Francisco I wonder though, how much cartel and drug money go through the doors of BofA disguised as legit international businesses? 75% of the gun violence in the USA is due to the illegal drug business.

Current Bank I work for has a "restricted" classification for Weapons Dealers- which means that these accouunts must be reviewed by our compliance area before opening and are reviewed quarterly. Mostly to make sure they are legitimate and acting within the law. Risk areas are always concerned due to the high number of lawsuits and bad plubicity that can be associated with such businesses. Banks generally do not make such decisions on political views(although most are quite conservative), but on risk reward and exposure.

BTW- BOA has been in Charlotte since Nationsbank bought BOA a decade ago.

No sh*t, I didn't know that. I knew about the buyout but I didn't know the headquarters moved NC. It has been a dozen or so years since I last owned stock of BOA, all their securities came from SF. I guess Wells is the only dog left in SF.
