My DD received an invitation to the ASA/USA Softball National Identification Program in Fresno on Nov 4. I am sure she was one of thousands. I did email the director of softball operations Lea Ann Jarvis and ask her if my DD was eligible for consideration for the Jr National Team if she attended this camp when she attended PGF and not ASA nationals. She responded yes. ID and video is $499 and ID only is $99. I believe you only need the ID to qualify for Jr National consideration.

My DD went last year. So far we went to the world cup last July and played on a national team. Later this month my DD is playing for Coach Jarvis at the Ronald McDonald showcase. Softball Factory can do alot for you and your DD. Take a chance pay the money you will be glad you did.

Good for your DD, I hope she had fun. The only reason we would even consider this is to have our DD considered for the Jr National Team. I can not in good conscience add to the coffers of an organization that holds roster spots hostage. We don't need The Softball Factory for anything. My DD does just fine.

So your saying that you were told by the WJNT Coach, that you qualify for WJNT consideration by only participating in ID, and do not need to participate in ASA Gold Nationals, what about ASA Membership?

Yes and also eligible to be selection for our player developement events as well.

If athletes don't have ASA #'s we will get #'s for them from ASA.

Here are some things I want to know. 1. What is the percentage of girls who are "chosen" for the National team vs. the number of girls who pay the fee. 2. Is there any "gate keeper" or can any kid off the street, no matter what their competitive level, pay the fee and get evaluated? What happens when they don't "qualify?"
How are they evaluated? Is it just raw athletic talent or on softball skills?
I know of some people who paid the fee and were told to go to another event in Florida to get sseen again ( another fee, by the way). Then, when they got there they told the kid she wasn't that good, but she could come take lessons.

I understand that many National sports organizations have athlete development programs. However, none of the ones I know involve a private organization making money off of them.

I was asked why Softball Factory and not her Travel team. Easy her Travel team isn't playing and if they were we would of played with her travel team.

She played Premier in 2011 and 2012, and hasn't registered or played ASA since 2010.
Makes me wonder how Softball Factory got her info.

Of course there is. If people truly believe that you will be selected for the Junior National Team from the Softball Factory camps, I have some land I can sell you down in Florida and it just might be cheaper than the $499 cost. As it is right now, they already have their list as they were suppose to have already selected the team for this coming summer's WJNT games several weeks ago but have not released the names because of the legal issues they created for themselves by announcing the format for selection just two weeks before ASA Gold Nationals and eliminating all those players who did not play at OKC, whether they were PGF, ASA (not qualified for Gold Nationals), TCS, USSSA, AFA......

M daughter and I have had personal experience with Softball Factory. We did the evaluation/camp in Pearland, Tx last year. We did the $99 choice for the one day evaluation/tryout for their national camp/competition held in Clearmont, Fl over the 2011 Christmas holidays. I can tell you this, keeping in mind it was their 1st year in buisiness and still getting their name out to everyone I did feel the competition at this particular camp (Pearland, Tx) wasnt that great IMO!!! My daughter was selected to attend the Christmas competition in Florida where she was one of the top 24 (of all the kids that attended the regional camps/tryouts) kids!! The competition once in Florida was significantly better obviously but I did find the camp quite pricey (but gave in cause DD wanted to attend). Now, with that said included in the price were room and board, dri-fit uniform shirts, cleats, meals, college recruiting camp. I will say this, the competition was run very professionally and Lea Ann has GREAT knowledge and knows LOTS of people in the softball world!! Also included in the Florida competition was that skills video which is very professional. NOW, with alllllll that said....with pockets of my depth I dont believe she will attend many more of those "select" camps, if any!!! She has been "invited" to about 4 total this year which we have not attended!! They are VERY pricey.. Hope this info helps....
