Holding the Tag

We have R1 on 3rd and my DD pitches the ball and it gets away from the catcher. R1 comes in to steal home. Catcher makes good toss back to DD who immediately puts the glove straight down in front of the plate. R1 slides into the tag and the ump comes up with a big ole safe call. My DD looks up at the ump after the call in disbelief. I was watching and my DD still has the tag on R1. I was thinking to myself it's time to give up and go back and pitch. I even hear another parent say he's not going to change the call. The ump actually makes a 2nd safe sign as to tell my DD the call is final. I don't know how long DD held the tag but she finally gets up and goes back to the circle. So on the way home I asked DD why she held the tag so long. DD says that R1's metal cleat was stuck in her glove and she couldn't pull it off. Now I understand why.

That's when it helps to have a mouthy young lady that will yell "Hey, her cleat has me nailed to the ground!"
