It is my understanding that only 1 team out of Region 3 goes to state. So as between Pearland, Dobie, Katie and Alvin--only 1 of the four teams can go to state.

So the comment about Pearland and Dobie "only one can advance to state" is only true if they win the Regional series against the team who wins the bottom half of the Region 3 bracket.

There are some good 4-A Match-ups as well.
District 17 4-A is well represented in this round.

Montgomery vs. Nederland
Barbers Hill vs. Magnolia
Little Cypress-Mauricville vs. Brenham

My bold pick is B-wood over Dobie. B-wood has too much speed and will cause havoc on the defense of Dobie. As good as O'conner is she can't pitch and field every ball.

As for the the DP-Clements game. If DP doesn't walk too many batters and plays good defense they should win. If they don't do the above they could easily lose. DP is capable of putting a bunch up in a hurry.

Big Bad Dude, thanks for the analysis. The region 2 and 3 sides will lose some top 10 teams before it is all done.

Those Houston Chronicle reporters are too quiet these days. A couple of stories but nothing in depth on the powerhouses. This weekend should have some shakeups!

Tomball vs O'Connor
Alvin vs Plano East

Anybody else?[/quote]

Not sure I have Pearland and Katy playing for Region 3, Alvin has some very steep hills to climb in the lower bracket. Sterling has a young freshman that could shut them down if they dont come ready to play, and both Deer Park and Clements could take you out if thier is a one game playoff. If everything works out the way it should Alvin should see three very good pitchers and if they pull that off I would have to say they could be very tough to beat come Regional finals.

Butch has the Woodlands ranked #1, but most posts here are touting Tomball over the Woodlands. They may not quite have last year's talent on the field but most of their players are playoff tested. They have been there before in high school ball and select. I might take the team that has experience. it will be interesting. The one thing that might derail them is failing to respect the opponent. Something they had not done in the past.

Day One:

Tomball hit well against a strong pitcher, but RR had a chance in the 7th to tie it.

Woodlands pitching and defense dominated Stony.

Best of 3, but these two ranked teams got the job done.

Day Two:

RR 15 runs against Tomball!! What happened.

Woodlands are missing Paige on the mound, but what happened to the bats.

Day 3: Many 2012 seniors will be shedding tears on some pretty good teams.

If Woodlands "dominated" Stony Point on Thursday, then Stony Point DEMOLISHED Woodlands Friday night.. Cause the Woodlands to make too many errors, Stony Points pitcher was on, they were smashing the ball (gave up a 2 run HR)... Woodlands switched pitchers and that didn't help the cause.....
