Just got an email from one of my players quitting because she was told by one of the Adidas Future Teams coaches in SoCal that to play on this team she has to play on his travel team. Talk about taking advantage of a privilege.

Yup, know a coach that did that last year too and it didn't really help that travel team too much in the end either.

The kids should be able to play where they want and not be pressured into playing just becuase of that Addidas opportunity.

Interesting since I thought they specifically state that should not occur since the teams are supposed to be seperate entities.
Of course, I believe some of the guys coaching those Adidas teams are the same ones that post incessantly all year round looking for players since they can't fill or keep a roster

I know a kid who was offered a spot on a SoCal Adidas team last year, then 3 weeks before the tournament, found out she was being replaced by a player who had committed to play full time for the Adidas coach's travel ball team. And if you saw the rosters from last year, it looked like most of the teams were comprised of the coaches regular TB players.

Sounds like the selection process is similar to gov't job postings-they take applications, but more than likely a replacement has already been chosen.......

Maybe ask how many kids are returning for a second year? Could be revealing.

These are the same coaches that approach kids at showcases/tournaments and try to recruit them for their own teams.

I think the bad thing about the travel ball program,is the coaches of these so called "Deam Teams" are getting into the same game as college coaches.Colleges need to let the girls play the game,and quit recruiting at an early age.If the girls are good enough as freshman and sophmores think about this:They might be even better as Juinors and Seniors.When my daughters played there was not many younger girls verbaling or commiting.I read the discussions about Hazing.I think this is called Exploiting.How many more Tournaments do you need???You dont think someone is making any money from this do you??Quit playing mind games with the girls and let them be......

Pretty cheesy! I know of a kid in the same situation as well...She was told that a week ago...She was told it was "An Adidas Rule"...BS! Spaz is right with his analogy though...Look at WHO is coaching some of these teams and take a look at their travel team and how long some of their kids have been there and/or how good their teams are...
