That is a great article...

Unfortunately, I know all too many people like this. Most parents/coaches that have kids who play softball have no idea the amount of long term damage they do to their kid on the way home from the game...Offering their unwarranted opinion on things...If the kid doesn't bring it up to you, then don't bring it up to her!

I've seen kids ask to ride with a teammate, etc...There are a many reasons why kids stop playing the sport that they once loved but most of them relate to the their parents. Most parents preach/beat the love of the game right out of their kid. It would be a true awakening for some if they truly knew how much their kid hated playing softball.

Parents should be there to protect their kid and to support their kid! When you do more than that, you aren't helping your kid. If you are both a coach and a parent, you better learn to differentiate between the two because most likely you won't do either one well! ALL OF THE KIDS know when the coaches kid screws up because her Dad/Coach is 2 seconds away from going nuts on her! We've all seen it first hand.

Let them handle it! One day they will screw up when you aren't there and they will have to deal with it...Guess what? They can do it without you! AND, your kid won't grow up hating you and hating the game...As the girls advance into the upper age groups, they all talk about each others CRAZY parents...ALL OF THEM DO IT! If you think that you aren't the topic on most days, you are a fool!!! Save your kid the humiliation of answering to those things and let her do what she's here to do...Play softball!!!

it's one thing to know what not to say, but it's another thing to actually stop yourself from saying it.

It sure calms a stressful athlete. This may be a spring of a lot of Dairy Queen. Wonder if they sell gift cards.

Have to catch on a regular basis for a extremely violent child makes it very easy to not forget.

Seriously, the kid works her butt off and even when its completely and totally her fault, I give her what she needs but doesnt want , a hug.

In a game 3 years ago that should have decided the high school district championship, our opponent was ranked #1 in the state, we were ranked #4, we lost 2-0. Both runs were unearned - both errors were caused by players with my last name, the short stop and the third baseman. On the ride home, I finally said 'Hey you guys ok?' DD2 answers , 'Yea pop why shouldnt we be, your daughters just fxxxed up our chance to win district.' Out of the mouth of babes.

The next game against them went to the bottom of the 7th 4-4 we are home. DD2 (9 hole hitter) set up to slap, outfield moved in, she lines it over rf's head, she runs to 2b, misses the 3b coach signal (the coach was new and DD2 didnt trust her anway) - she looks back to find the ball, which def cost her a triple - possible an in the park. DD1 (lead off hitter bunts her to 3rd) and neighbor kid sacs her home. So we win and now have a tie with #1 ranked Kingsville. Then the next week, they #1 ranked Kingsville loses to 2-9 Callalen so the girls get the district title. Never know whats going to happen out there.
