DD2, my delicate little flower, appointed herself the spiritual leader of our travel team and led the team in prayer before games/tournaments etc. while she was the youngest kid on the team. When she started, I just backed away, glad that the girls did this on their own. I encouraged the kids to develop leaders in various areas, like pre-game warmups, and so on.

One of my good friends was my score keeper for 6-7 years and I noticed that after the prayer session, he was usually grinning - they usually did their prayer outside the dugout, near where he had his chair and stuff setup.

I walked over once and went to listen in - my bud said "Donnie - let the girls have their privacy." - but my curiosity got the best of me and I finally did listen in long enough to hear DD2 saying ,".... and dear God watch over us, dont let anybody on these teams or the blues get hurt and help us to beat the sxxx out of them, in Jesus name we pray."

Winner.

Any girl who'll say 'shit' in the middle of a prayer is definitely thinking for herself. Thanks for sharing this one.

ssd, I have this picture of God, sitting up there in His recliner, Peter sitting beside him, watching that golden gate, having a ice tea, smiling , listening in 'down stairs', and then 'what did she say ?!!?'

She sees God as her Friend, with whom she can speak openly. That has come in very useful this last 2 years.

and thats right, God knows all things. and , yes it is okay to pray for your team. have faith, and if your team doesn't win, oh well. thats God s will. give God all the glory anyways. praise God for everything. theres a lot more to the kingdom than wins & losses.

This topic is actually one that hit home for me. I Coach HS Varsity at an academy-like(K-12th) Private Christian High School and I should be getting probably one of the saddest cases of a Youth player I've ever heard. Saw this girl play and I'll venture to say she's probably the best fielding SS I have seen in HS games and the travel teams I've coached against. Unfortunate the girl has never played travel because her parents don't like that majority teams play or practice Sunday mornings. So she plays rec and only sees rec pitching(Has a pretty decent bat for not seeing the greatest pitching ever). Again the girl moves like a D1 fielder to say the least for no reason other than great genes and natural ability and someone with bat&ball knowledge in her family. It's really sad if you see her and know the story.

I don't think parents should really impede a kid from reaching a high level just for religious purposes. I'm not telling anyone how to raise their kid, but if you want to pay for college all out of pocket then be my guest.
