10U too early for TB?

What's on your mind?

by DonnieS » Tue Jan 10, 2012 1:25 pm

Rbi, i agree with everything you say, but competition is the best test of instructions. We practiced a lot at those early years, but they liked the games, they liked winning the plastic, they liked going to school and talking about it with their friends - who were doing the same in basketball and soccer.

It's obvious that some are steadfast against playing TB year round and others are just as steadfast for it. Personally I'd much rather my DD be outside playing any sport year round as opposed to sitting in front of a TV or a video game. We'll each do it our way and hopefully it will work out.

Actually playing video games is better for the kid from September through January of each year until they reach 15 years old. Thats when they play the 30-40 game that are absolutely worthless.

Kids' bodies are different. That said.....if you err on the side of the folks encouraging 10U TB and you are wrong.....your kid gets hurt. If you err on my side.....NOTHING bad happens. NOTHING.

You are the parent and you certainly have the right to put your kid in harms way if you so choose.

So ... Sam, with all due respect ... combining your two posts ... You are indicating that kids under 15 should play video games for half of the year instead of engaged in an acitivity that promotes physical fitness and "NOTHING bad happens." and they are putting their kids in "harms way" otherwise ? I fully understand your point of view and experience with over use injuries ... BUT advocating kids sit on their arse turning their mind into silly putty is "harms way" IMO

Nothing bad happens? What if the kid gets too used to sitting around, playing fxxxing video games, eating cheetoes, and drinking cokes that they dont want to get back into sports.

The more the kids stay busy, the less time they have to think up sxxx to get into. I heard my grandma telling my parents that about 50 or so years ago and I havent forgot it.

Some things never change ... Well ... all except the part where your Grandma was talking about milking the cows at 3am before going to school ... Not video games and fastpitch ... LMAOWIOAB!

At age 10, most kids would be happy staying in their local Rec league playing softball with their school friends. In many cases, it's the parents urging their kids to move to travel, while *claiming* their DD is making the request. Plenty of time to get serious later at 12U or 14U in travel. Rec and Rec All-Stars is a fun time. All-Star tourneys are easy to enter. No scouring the web for friendlies.

Having said that, some Rec leagues are SO pathetic, that families have no choice but to leave to find something resembling competition.

When making the decision, just make sure you're making the decision that's in the best interest of your DD and not your ego.
