Inland Empire Tournament this weekend

by in2fp » Sun Oct 23, 2011 6:06 pm

As an old "wish my daughter was still playing locally" I went to see the talent that is coming up. Many good established teams and a few new ones that are showing potential. There were 4 teams left in the semis when I left: Firecrackers-Brashear, Tri City Smash, Corona Angels and Cruisers. I believe Tri City is from Northern California. There were at least 20 14u teams.

Good competition and the tournament format for these tournaments allows for a team that has a rough day in pool-play to not walk in to a #1 seed first game out in elimination. Rick (Minor's Gold) & Sean (Firecrackers) will have success with this unusual elimination format.

Thank you to Minor's Gold and Firecrackers for putting on a great Tourney this weekend., It was fun to watch all the teams and to have an ending other than what everyone expected. A week or so ago, I posted that I expected to see FC98 raise the trophy, as did everyone else. I was wrong.-as was everyone else Congratulations to CA98! You earned it. Word has it that they were / are crippled by injuries and had to almost exclusively ride their new ace pitcher from Breakers every game to the Championship. Contrary to last year, their defense was excellent and they have many outstanding hitters. As they say, you're only as good as your last game, so for this one day, at least, CA98 stands alone; but let's not forget that National Champion FC98 is still the yardstick for the 98 teams.

BTW Softbal, how tall is that shortstop of yours? Heard people saying she was about 6'. Wow! Was she the one that took the Firecracker ace deep? Would have liked to have seen that. Your team has some major POP these days. She and that right fielder of yours are two of the strongest hitters I've seen in this age group. CA98 has come a long way since early last season. Kudos to baby Marty; he is recruiting well! Keep it up and we'll see you on the fields.

Geez, they only get one day? Can't you give them at least a week or until the next tourney to enjoy the glory of winning the tourney when no one said they would? :?
