Additional Hotels For 14U in Midland, TX

Just saw this posted in the Midland United Girls Softball Site indicating additional hotels in the Midland Area...

You gotta be kidding... How do they figure these are in the Midland "area" when they are over 100 miles away and takes over an hour to get to? That's a heck of a ride if you forget something...

On top of that, the event is on the Virtual Tournament Director (VTD) site, but is closed and you cannot find out who is signed up, even though the event has received over 4000 hits already. The Midland Assoc. website also has no list of teams signed up to attend and lacks any information other then their "packet" and "additional hotel list". All the other age groups have a list going already and even Western Nationals has a list forming. Why is Midland keeping the attendees a secret? Low turnout?

LOL, I saw that yesterday too. If I remember that drive correctly, it's @ 2 hours from Lubbock. 4 hours round trip is not an option unless your DD plays well with 5 or so hours of sleep and you have lots of gas money.

I hate that this is how the rest of the country will remember a part of their nationals experience in Texas.

I am from Texas.......I am counting my blessings that I will not be in Midland for 14U Nationals. this location is terrible. The Hotels are poop, its HOT, and its HOT. Out of all of the great parks in Texas ; ASA has this tournament in Midland, what a shame. Glad my daughter is playing 18U.

For everyones information about the Hotels in Midland. If the teams that have booked hotel rooms in and around the Midland areas that have not qualified and have booked hotel rooms at 2 or 3 locations with up to 15 rooms that are waiting to see what they look like before canceling when they arrive would cancel there rooms. This would open up several Hotels in the area.

If this is the case, then I do not blame the teams but the hotels themselves. Cut off dates should have been set and charges made if reservations were not confirmed or cancelled.

I am not knocking Midland, as I have never been, but from what I am hearing from others that live in the state of Texas, Midland does not seem to be getting high marks. Just as I said above, I do not blame teams for pulling tactics to see what type of hotels are available because again, from what others have said that have been to Mdland, the hotels are not that good. They seem to be set up more for the traveler who is passing by on the way to somewhere else, rather then someone going to Midland as their final destination. This is why more of the hotel establishments are more motels then hotels.

As for it being hot, I think it's that way for every event ASA hosts. Is Owensboro, KY any better? Phoenix, AZ was 110 last year, but it was supposed to be a dry heat, NOT!!! Nor Cal was 111 2 days ago with lingering bad air quality due to all the fires...

To make a tangible, meaningful difference it would take more than 45 rooms. Even if those rooms opened up the issue remains getting there. If you live in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, etc... not a crisis. Try booking a flight from Washington or North Carolina to Midland. Get on to Orbitz or Travelocity and try booking 36-40 people (players, coaches, parents) on a flight. You would have more luck booking a tour bus and taking a 32 hour ride.

Regardless, many of the teams entered are known, respected powerhouse teams. The competition will be hot, all puns intended.

We looked into that for Midland... Unless you own a bus, it ain't a cheap ride, it was about $20,000 for a 40 person bus for the week, plus you had to pay for the driver's accomodations.
