There were some great teams at the Fireworks tournament, it was very competitive, and was very well run (again!!).

It seems like playing the Sparkler is akin to ducking the better tournament in an effort to gain bragging rights by winning a "B" tournament.

Not everyone can get into Boulder or the Fireworks.

Lots of teams don't care to deal with the idiots that run the Fireworks tournament....crooks, actually.

No, I'm saying our team PAID to get in two years ago and still haven't seen the refund. No returned calls, no returned emails. Nada. We believe that these guys have stolen our team's money. They know they are in Colorado and we can't do much about it...except complain about having our money stolen...here.

That is... an assumption. If you had been there you would have noticed that, as with virtually all tournaments, there were lightweights and heavyweights. Simply saying that your perspective on a single team defines the tournament as a whole is, possibly, a bit myopic.

The fields were scattered about. One complex had 12 or 13 fields and it would have appeared obvious to hold one bracket at that one location for the entire tourney instead of "30 miles this way, 30 miles that way". Most of the umps were good. Some were horrible, giving every appearance that they had never done a fastpitch game before. Fields were not dragged between games. Some fields were water/mud bound. We watched the team before us play with ad hoc rules that included (apparently, in the first game of the day) that the right fielder had to play in the dirt because of the water in the grass 3" deep and any hit to right/right-center was considered a ground rule double. And then I think they might have changed the rules for where the right fielder might play half way through the game. Not sure. Why they didn't delay their game and ours or the one after us is unknown, or at least move it. The entire field was playable by late afternoon though.

And, Denver is drivable for a lot of people if you don't mind extended travel.

The best game I personally saw was the Corona Wildcats and the Florida MiniBulls.
