Who Does Not Have Hotel Rooms In Midland

Only 44 teams entered so far. With a month to go I wonder how many more teams will sign up?

Some areas still have a National Qualifier and Regional to play, but the # of teams entering those seem to be low as well.

You should have reserved your rooms back in January, if you qualified then your good to go, if you didn't qualify then cancel.

I think many teams did that, which is the problem. Teams who did not qualify are holding rooms, either hoping to get a berth or just do not care about cancelling the block. We called several area hotels and asked when their cut off dates were for those types of teams, their answer was, "The day before check in...". Usually, hotels will give a cut off date before then giving others a chance to book the rooms. If they are waiting for the day before check in to release rooms, they may find themselves with alot of empty rooms.

They are not going to switch cities for nationals, so either quit bitching and come play ball or stay home.

Many teams have chosen to stay home, evident of the low turn out thus far... Oh well, their decision... Can a team go to play ball and still bitch?

I was just having some fun... You wanted teams to stay home or play and stop bitching, but you know there will alway be teams that will play and still bitch. You are right, won't do or change anything, but people will still feel the need to express their opinions. That's just what people are doing here. We're coming, have rooms, and even found some cheap fares. AnniesDad even mentioned one of the tactics we used.

Bitching will be heavy before Nationals, but during the week of games it will settle down a little because people will start to "just play". After the games are done, the uprising will happen again, this time with actual experiences of the week. Can't make everyone happy, unless your the team walking away with the big trophy and banner.

As I said before, nobody is bashing anyone here, it's just that people's expectations of Nationals (competition, umpires, location, experience, etc...) are set pretty high and anything less would be a shame for all those girls who worked so hard to get there. Out of the thousands of 14U teams out there, the maximum # of teams to go this year is between 105 and 185, according to the ASA site. When you are one of those teams, you should expect more then your normal everyday weekend tournament, from the level of competition to the facilities on and off the field.

You want to talk about ugly? Was talking on the phone to a hotel worker, she said there is wide-spread viciousness (word?) and stated all the hotels are having the same problem:

You gotta be pretty good to know what team is staying at what hotel to cancel their rooms. Hotels should have established a cut off date as to when all the teams needed to have their credit cards on file and charged. This would have prevented teams who are wishing to go to hold up rooms for teams already qualified. Pretty wild...

Believe me, I'm from Texas and when I heard the nationals were in Midland, I was like, you got to be kidding me. Look us up when you guys get there. I think that I will try to find some portable palm trees of some sort, some sand, a small pool, and try and create a tropical oasis in the middle of a parking lot in Midland, TX. CHAP knows I've got the tunes.....maybe some Buffett and Bob Marley....with the red cups, we might be able to pull off fooling ourselves into thinking we are in the tropics instead of the desert. what do you think Chap, we can make everybody welcome to our little slice of tropical paradise.
