Tournament Options?

It would have been fine if he had said the team will be more athletic, but he didn't leave it at that. He crossed the line when he posted on a public forum the fall team had very little athleticism. JMHO

Well we can disagree on what that means and what crossing the line is.

Our Gold team is not all that ATHLETIC. I will say that on a public forum and have no problems saying that. That doesnt mean they can not play the game. I am honest with all of our players and we have no problems pointing out that we are what we are, and being who we are is ok.

So saying that a team is not that athletic is not some insult, even though you took it that way.
Sorry you took some kudos to a group as a slam to others.

i dont slam young girls........... EVER.

Arnaiz is a GREAT place to play (with only 1 problem... foul balls, no nets) I dont have a problem with no food allowed in. The people running Arnaiz provide us with a GREAT service. They give us GREAT fields every single week. Do you really expect that to happen for free? You can easily go to the parking lot and eat your food. Not a big deal to me.

Arnaiz is a great place to play in terms of field quality and we understand that its a business and dont expect that to happen for free. Lets face it..that place rakes in alot of $$$$ over the course of a year (as they should). Now the first rule of business is always SAFETY FIRST (ESPECIALY WHEN IT INVOLVES YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS)!! How much money/effort do you think it will set them back to put netting up for foul balls..really? I dont even have a problem with the black tarp put around the fence preventing families from watching outside the fence..IF..they put up netting! Thats how much of schiesters thier becoming..they dont want you "knotholing" from the fence but refuse to make it a safer atmosphere!! They wont be happy till they have a tragic accident involving foul balls. Especially on top of the stadium (when trying to keep an eye on two games at once)..THOSE THINGS COME FAST AND HARD!!

Put netting up then not being able to bring in food in, tarping the fence, and all other complaints wont be a big deal!! (although they do get a lil carried away with bringing in a single drink in your hand sometimes)..JMHO

I personally dont like to do friendlies (at least not often). I think the tournaments offer what the kids need. They need to play games where winning and losing matters. They need that Sunday elimination bracket.

I absolutly agree 100% with you on friendlies! In my opinion they dont "try as hard" (for lack of a better term) when its a friendly compared to tournament play with something on the line/games matter. One is ok before you start getting into tournaments but i dont like playing too many.

Their is a rumor going around.. from a pretty reliable source.. that nets are going up at arnaiz fields ..if the rumor becomes a reality it should solve the safety issues.

Friendlies suck and serve nearly no purpose other than going over situations. At the older levels they should be ready to go and really no reason to do a friendly past the 14u division. Yes I know they can be done cheaper, etc but the kids dont respond to friendlies like they do tourneys. As far as Arnaiz we will believe it when we see it, saying that for some time now. Arnaiz I do like as well but I dont think $4 is reasonable at all for each day, especially since most other places charge nothing to see our kids (well the good venues dont atleast). If it was 2 bucks a head , I wouldnt even b*tch as I know they have to make something down here as the funding just isnt available like it is down south. You have a family of 4 and its 16 bucks a day for the family to go, that gets expensive real quick. Just becomes greedy IMO.

Blue saying his team is more athletic now and praising this upcoming team, I can see how it was taken as a slight. Especially since the team has quite a bit of new players, I can see how the former players/families could be rubbed wrong. Otherwise, I think he is just excited on the new season, and in his position he needs to be. When your kid is athletic its a nice compliment , when your kid is not, it seems like a slight everytime it comes up. The game has changed quite a bit and more teams are looking for the athletes. Lets face most teams have a few and the rest are not. It is what it is......however lame that saying is.

what is athletic...5-5" 120lbs and quick slapper, or is a 5-9 kid who has great power and is fast too?? or is it in the eye of the coach?? I guess if you can tell your players to their faces that they are not athletic and she can still get up to play..something must be right...hmmm

An athlete is a 5 tool player , its simple as that. Gets to balls that others dont, throws out runners when others dont have the arm strength, can hit whether power/average or both, and can leg out an infield single or turn a single to double or score on a ball hit to the shallow outfield from 2nd base on a good jump. Those sort of things make an athlete. If she is missing one or 2 of those things, probably not an 'athlete'. Someone smaller as you suggest isnt necessarily an athlete cause she is small. She may have the 'quicks' but doesnt have good arm strength or cant hit. So thats what I think of when I think of an athlete and most coaches would probably agree with that.
