Tournament Options?

Well it seems as if you have the solution to this epidemic, just change the venue & don't charge. Where might you suggest we go play that has watered & chalked fields every game, doesn't charge a fee and will provide you with softball proof roofing. Also I'm sorry to hear about Lodi. BTW my friend check this out:

Looks like the softball community to me is hearing your concerns & really rallying up and just about to go on STRIKE!! ;)

Might want to double-check with Mr RnR Gold about that before you're so certain...

I have no need to check. Remember this was an ASA conversation. What IFA does is another conversation. So to answer your question I am "certain".....and its triple checked! :)

Your right bitching and moaning does nothing. This will always be the same. With RR Gold and Grapettes always getting the big turnouts. Most teams are clustered in that surrounding 100 mile radius. It is what is I guess. Still continue to pay for crappy fields and a nice tournament t-shirt if you get 1st or 2nd. But people go where the teams go and thats where they go. Any idea what those teams do with all their money that they make from those tourney's?

I must commend you on your effort, cause you're really trying "hard"!! If you knew your history of the last tourney, then you would know this is about the normal turnout.

So if you really believe this is the tournment future, then I have a "Star" in the sky and an "Iceberg" in the Atlantic to sell you. Oh yeah watch out for the "boogie man"!! Anyway thats my 2 tenths of a cent.

lv2earat8 we'll catch up later, btw see you on the fields in March 2011!! ;) :)

Sorry my sarcastic friend - the original statement of this post was "Is anyone else getting tired of paying these high tournament and gate fees to play on crappy fields and and have crappy umpires? Where do you have to go to get better fields. Can all the coaches get together and agree to play somewhere like Rainbow Fields or Tracy?

When you arrived at this little shindig 4 days later, it was you who brought the ASA channel into the mix. The rest of us were simply comparing notes on the various crap venues. Rainbow fields and Tracy are not standard ASA facilities although the recent ASA 14u Regionals used the more-than-acceptable fields in Tracy back in July.

My comment was in direct response to your offering that "Tournament directors" )note the non-use of the ASA term) have no influence. Simply put, that is wrong and remains so.

You also bring up the various ASA tournaments that do charge. As we all know, this is not a function of ASA but rather a function of the local TD. ASA does not mandate charging and in fact in many areas, charges are not the standard fare. For some reason, the need to charge exhorbatant fees, restrict coolers and player drinks and in general hold hostage those who seek to enter a facility has become common in Northern California and many are finding it objectionable. Last season, I walked up to the gate at the local association tournament with a starbucks cup and 1" of coffee remaining. The overly officious idiot in charge at the front gate immediately jumped up and in an overly loud voice, announced that I either had to dump it or stay outside and finish it. I was tempted to dump it on the sidewalk right in front of him, but a rarely cooler head prevailed and I simply smiled and drank it.

The thrust of this post is not picking one's umpiring crew but rather why teams and their supporting entourage continue to pay for crap facilites and ridiculous policies when other facilities with more sanity remain available.

My problem there is that players get razzed as they walk in with water and gatorade...come on folks! Fans should at the least be able to bring in water tooo...and then....I agree no problem paying 4 bucks...

Played a showcase (joke) at RR this fall. The umpires look like some one went to the old folks home and handed out blue shirts and bused them to the field. Just like most of the other post, we saw little water and no chalk (must be a chalk shortage in stockton). Regional Park is scary - I have seen better cow pastures then the outfields they have there. Someone needs to donate a lawn mower to that faculity. Did not see one scout at any of the 5 games we played. The best was - our last game we sent out parents to rake the field. The grounds crew was now were to be found, I think the Raider game had started. Just got back from Surf City - sad to say but you will never see a team that I am associated with at a show case in stockton. Big waste of $$$$$$
