Need a new ball for most games anyway, so durability is nice, but not a big deal. If my pitchers like Dream Seams (and they do) it's an easy call. If they think they can pitch better with the Dream Seam, often they do.

your pitchers prefer the dream seam??? i'm holding a dream seam and a cfp right now and the cfp definitely has better grip and leather - not even close.

even an old beat up cfp has better grip than a new dream seam.

although i do admit the dream seam has a much cooler name.

If your looking for a ball that is low in cost and great for pitching use a Wilson! If you are looking for a great game ball that can be used months after the game get a Dudley. If you are going to a friendly where balls end up in a ditch half the time who cares....throw in a rubber ball wrapped in pleather.

Well, in most friendlies we played in, we had to provide backup balls and lots of teams don't break out a brand new ball in friendlies. They use a previous game ball which is in good shape. The Dream Seam is not in good shape after the 2nd inning and may even have a busted seam by that time.

Bad seams and scuffs shorten the ball's lifespan, which means you can't use it to practice for as long as you can use a Dudley. You normally use good used balls for the pitchers to warm up with....can't do that a lot of times with a Dream Seam. The Dream Seam wouldn't last in the open market if it weren't for ASA choosing it every other year as the official ball for championship play.

Just curious how the CFP compares to the Thunder Heat. It also has great leather and the grip lasts a long time. My DD prefers it (although we have not tried the CFP) and has only one negative comment; the seams are a little rough on her fingers with new balls out of the wrapper. After one pitching session the seams soften so it doesn't bother her at all. Is CFP the same or better leather? What about the seams?

the cfp and thunder heat are very similar in leather quality - if not the same. the difference is that the seams are more tame (not as tall) on the CFP, so they should be less bothersome to your DD's fingers.

both are very good balls.

My daughter also prefers to pitch with a Dream Seam - she will use the CFP when she has to, but definitely not her 1st choice.

Ditto for my DD who finds the Dudley's seams too hard on the fingers for spinning. All we use is Dream Seams, but agree it is not as durable. We retire the Dream Seams after two or three games to the practice ball bucket.
