Strategy Question 2

What's on your mind?

by Daddylawman » Tue Aug 31, 2010 6:38 am

Folks,

Thanks for the input on my prior question. It's kind of nice to use this site to actually discuss softball.

Here's my next question - again - talking a level of play at least 16A.

How do you defend against the slap? Assume a good slapper, but not someone who can turn on an outside pitch and pull it to right. However, given the chance let's say she can hit it decently to left.

Do you bring your whole infield in? Do you shift your outfielders? What about keeping 1B back and bringing 2B in near the circle?

Thanks again.

DD's team brings 2nd in near the top of the circle, ss shallow but not to far in, cf comes in twords the gap at 2nd, 3rd's four steps in front of the bag creeping in. Outfield corners moving with the pitch.

You pull your F6 in a tad. That's it. You throw low and outside, mix in changeups, rise balls, and curveballs in off the plate. Your pitcher is the best defense against the slap.

Screwballs away has been the mainstay in the past but it looks like slappers are looking for that low away pitch to hit between F5 and F6. Rise balls and curveballs in tight have been the best from what I have seen. F9 in looking for the bloop or shot in the hole.
