Reasons for NOT going to States?

one thing i think we know this year...since all age groups are NOT in cali, everyone will be coming to all age groups...no cali boycotts like last years 12u...but never fear, the cali teams will be there and very hungry...

DD told me about a team that is not going to SoCal States because "it is only a two game guarantee".

I was about to laugh until she told me it was true, which got me wondering... what are the craziest reasons not to play for a shot at Nationals? Or most common?

Fire away, this could be fun!

We may not play state just because there is only one other team going to state besides us and we have already beat them 10 times. We don't need the berth since we are playing TCWS instead of the ten pound mesquitos in Alabama JK. Its like wiping without needing to poop....it just doesn't make sense. JMHWO

Sorry Spaz, I had to see for myself. Why, oh why, are none of your teams playing in HOF? Another qualifier that weekend?

Its a great road to ASA Nationals if your team is oozing money.

Interesting comment Sam. Would you care to expand?
Going to OKC is a lot cheaper than many other cities that host qualifying tournaments and you can't beat the odds for getting a berth to Nationals. There are 20+ teams, many from SoCal including both Sting teams, traveling to AZ for a NQ that gives 1 berth. Is that a better deal? Or are you just against the travel altogether.

Normally HOF qualifiers are held in NoCal...that's one trip. If you qualify there, you get to travel to OKC in a 24 team tournament. Top 8 go to ASA Nationals.

The AZ qualifier is cheap...hotels in Phoenix will be dirt cheap. Worth going just to get the tournament juices going.

Its likely cheaper to go to the Northeast...or Virginia...or MN/WI/SD to qualify in tournaments that likely won't have more than 8 teams playing and no other SoCals.

Just my opinion.
