No official lineup

Watched a pool game at the beat the heat tournament this past weekend where a team did submit an official lineup for the game. What was interesting about this is they were able to use there bench players as defensive substitutions then when batting they would reinsert the better hitter back into the game where they needed her for offensive purposes. (big hitters batted in multiple spots) I never knew you could play a game where you didn't have to submit an official lineup unless at a friendly where both coaches agree before hand. Has anyone done this before and how is it leagle. Please help me understand. Thanks

IMU there is no rule set where a batter can ever bat in more than one spot in the lineup. Mulitple players can bat in one lineup spot during a game using subs and re-entry but if you see a batter hit in the #4 position and then later they hit in the #9 position that sounds like cheating to me.

If you are playing bat the roster, I have seen team allow dropping injured players out of the batting order with no penalty (usually for injuries or have to leave the game) as long as there are at least 9 remaining batters.

Spaz,
I could be wrong, but I think that's what they were doing. Defensive changes using free substitution which I know is good, but I do believe they were reinserting them in a different position in the batting order than where they were removed from. That was what the problem was. Their argument was they had no lineup and it was free sub.
The team did call it to the umps attention at that point in the game and even to someone after the game, I'm assuming a UIC or TD at that site. Don't know what was said but the score stood. Those changes did create runs to tie the game.
Thanks for your help :)

OK.....someone clarify for me....

Why in the world would a team continually DH for weaker hitters at a friendly?

I can't think of a better way to work with weaker hitters than in game situations vs live pitching. :?:

Because some coaches can’t turn off the ”I need a win”.
In most cases wining pool is a good thing. So some coaches might try to redefine the intent of free substitution and use it fudge the line up, use the fastest runner for anyone who gets on base, use 9 DH’s. Basically sacrifice your team for the win.

Made up rules like free substitution also makes officiating difficult.

Instead of free substitution why not give the coaches two options, bat 9 or or bat everyone. If you bat everyone you can use the last out to pitch run for the pitcher and catcher. Other than that, all rules of ASA apply. Or something like that.

Coach 11- ditto my response above regarding friendlies, bat 9 or bat all, period.
P.S. Friendlies have turned into travel league play.

One question that has not addressed, can you play a game in pool play with free substitution without submitting a line up listing your starting lineup and listing the rest of your eligable players?

The question that was clarified, the batter cannot bat in multiple positions even if they are removed from the game while on defense and then reinserted back into the game while at bat.

Thanks

Can I rephrase your question to" What are the rules when we agree to play outside the rules?" Doesn't it depend on what your restated rules actually say?
