Last night at a JV game I was informed by the Blue working the dish that in order for there to be interference it 1.) Had to be intentional 2.) There had to be contact 3.) Could not be called on a batter if she was stepping back, only if she stepped forward 4.) In order for it to be called on a batter interfering with the catcher, the catcher would have to throw the ball ... Then he went with " In my judgement, it was not interference "

That's all that needed to be said. Short and concise.

That would have been the best thing to say just to keep the blue from letting everyone know that he has no clue what he is doing.

I love umpires like that.... that is why Iluvblue is my name:)

I agree, no on field rules clinics, especially if you have no clue what you are talking about.. but for any umpire. Those discussions can be had between partners. The best sentence is exactly "In my judgment, there was no int". No need to get trapped by a wiley coach no matter how much you think you know the rule. Allow them to misunderstand one thing you say and they will run around like they found the holy grail.

I dont understand the post though. Why dont you email the UIC and tell them so the ump can be straightened out. I thought you an umpire or did you stop?

Yeah ... I took over coaching a weak JV program this year ... I went to all the classes to get carded in NFHS just to keep current ... Also ASA ... but I don't think I will have the time this summer because of the travel team schedule ... No purpose to the post ... as Hugo sez I was just venting... or maybe bored while drinking my morning cups of joe ... BUT, it was a HTBT interference ... I asked about it when it happened ( passed ball, batter stepped back in front of catcher ) and he said no ... I just asked for clarification in between innings on why he didn't call it and what he would call interference ... but the more he talked the more he put his foot in his mouth .,... once he realized it he back peddled to : "In my judgement ..." which is probably where he should have started ... I know the guy but have never worked a game with him ... he is a rare presence at the classes & clinics and it shows ...
