I have just heard and confirmed that Bri Mathews has just passed away.
Our prayers go out to her family, friends and the whole softball community.

A star softball pitcher at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana has died, but details of her death have not been released, authorities said.
Nadia Brianne Matthews, 16, of Anaheim, died Thursday, said Daniel Aikin, supervising deputy coroner for the Orange County coroner's office. An autopsy is being conducted Friday morning to determine the cause of death, he said.
Matthews was a pitcher for the Monarchs, and had verbally committed to play softball for the University of Arizona. She was considered one of the state's top softball prospects for the class of 2011.
Matthews was one of the most highly sought after recruits in the nation. Some considered her the best pitching prospect in Southern Califonia.
As a freshman at Mater Dei High, she went 14-4 with a 0.98 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 107 innings. Matthews had committed to Arizona, ranked No. 2 in the nation, a couple of months ago.

What a terrible tragedy! I am just heart broken right now! She is one of the girls that so many of our daughters aspire to be like & that they truly admire! I hope God can provide comfort to her family!

We are so sad to hear. Bri was truly a beautiful young lady, fabulous softball player and friend to all that were lucky enough to have ever met her. Our family will always remember her. Hugs, kisses and prayers to her family and all that are suffering right now... The Naudin Family.

My daughter and I had the pleasure this past December to meet Bri and her mother at the U of A softball camp. One of the nicest young ladies and families I have had the pleasure of meeting.
The Matthews family is in our deepest thoughts and prayers. We will be lighting an extra candle at church this week to honor Bri. You will be deeply missed Bri.

THIS IS A PARENT'S WORST NIGHTMARE! I am in shock and just cannot believe this has happened!! My heart aches for the family. We will keep the Matthews family in our prayers. Our deepest sympathy.
