As we all know polls mean nothing, a lot can happen between now and Nationals. Just want to point out a few facts:
Kaos '95 is already qualified for ASA. Good news for everyone fighting for a berth, they won't be at any qualifiers except for possibly the HOF if they choose. A team with a berth in hand can play in the HOF without giving up their berth.
A little history lesson for those not familiar with what it takes to get a berth...
There were only eleven (11) teams from Texas at the ASA/USA National last year.... of those teams only five were from the Houston area.
No "at-large" bids were given. They are trying to pump up the Southern National tournament so they give away an automatic berth to the champion. (That is how Kaos '95 is in)
As a Houston team, you can qualify through the HOF which they say only two teams get in from Region 7 (TX), but they usually give three spots. That is a tough tournament to place in, and the top eight at HOF get berths to Moline. Last year no teams from TX got in thru the HOF. Option 2 is Region 7 Championship (Kileen, TX) with the winner getting a berth. Option 3 is the national Qualifier (Pearland), this year I believe they are giving three berths (used to be one but they are not having a "regional" where two teams used to get in). Finally the last two berths will be at the Metro Championship (interesting this year that it is scheduled for the same weekend as the HOF, so some teams may have a difficult choice to make that weekend as to where they think their best shot is HOF or Metro. The maximum number of teams from the Houston area that could get in the ASA/USA National would be nine (9), and that would only happen if the top three at the HOF qualifier were from Houston and they all placed top eight in OK City.
Let the hand-ringing commence!
