96 Desert Wolves represented 14's very well. They eliminated Dynasty 12u in the Semis finals by 1 run and eliminated the hotshots 12U by 1 run in quarterfinals.

Based on the this weekends results I think the standings stay the same for 12U.

Comments on tourneys,
I would also like to add that the tournament was ran well by USSSA. I think the umpires did a great job.

I think the fields (Paseo) were horrible and not the best selection for the tournament. One field had a fence, We also had lots of rocks, bumps, and a sprinkler box. Not much room to warm up. If you USSSA would use the better fields in the city I think they would be viewed in a better light and attract the bigger teams.

I also like that the updates have already been added to the website for all to view within 24 hours. I really like the feel of USSSA website.

The fields weren't great, it isn't Mofford, but we have played on worse (Tucson). Due to a flurry of teams signing up at the last minute, this was on overflow complex for Desert West. Sahuaro Ranch was the original choice, that one is way worse than Paseo, it is scheduled for renovation this summer.

The TD said that they built the Field 1 fence in two days just to have one available. They are building more and will work with the City of Glendale to make this complex more "tournament friendly". The biggest problem I see with that complex is that the backstops are not sufficient for fastpitch. Foul balls flying everywhere, I saw a poor lady take one on the head. Parking was a bit short also, sharing with the tennis center.

Things that were good: competition, umps, the website, and the shade screens.

To the ranking man: I wouldn't read too much into Saturday pool scores. Teams have wide ranging agendas on Saturday. Some teams are playing all out, looking for seeding or just due to competitive nature, while other teams are experimenting & tweaking, using Saturday just to work on things. Look at Lady Dragons: 0-3 on Saturday, then knock off two #1s and march into the finals.

I think USSSA did a great job. They did have to change venues because of the number of teams. Paseo is not a fastpitch facility but they did as good as anyone possibly could.

With that in mind , I would ask all coaches that do not know..there are budget cuts in the works that could cause the closure of 3 softball complexes including Rose Mofford.
I would invite all to get involved.

Coaches, I do feel I take all into consideration. Pool play is just that, but do look to see how the teams are playing overall. As noted the top 5 spots are up for grabs with all these teams being at the same level and always playing well. Hotshots and Dynasty are 1-1 in heads up play.
Team Az has lost to Fever but still ranked higher..I feel all these teams can beat each other on any given day and just try to rank accordingly...

According to the CG's Heat website www.casagrandeheat.net they are playing some friendlies this weekend in the 14u with DT 96. CG Heat shows they looking to play at Rose Modford, the 20th, the Phx ASA. The Scramblers are also signed up in the same tourney. Don't know about the DT 97. .

I think wildfire and suncats have earned a little more respect this weekend? That looks like it was a good tournament and as long as they did it with their team and not pic ups they should get placed higher on the order. I think a shuffle is on order from slot 5 and up.

One tournament does not make one team better than others however it does count for something.

That is the reason for their upgrade in the rankings..Wildfire has played well but not as much as the teams above therefore their # 7 up from #12...as noted we will see how this week pans out..?
Same with Suncats..always noted as a very good team..has just started to play more...getting moved up also with recent play...

As you stated.." 1 tourney does not count for everything"..a good reason for them to still be a bit lower than teams they beat this weekend..

As for the top 5...this weekend should say a lot...same with Heat..great team..but not playing anybody...doesn't warrant the top spot after this weekend...
