Anyone Going to Pekin Dragon Dome?

What's on your mind?

by Cannonball » Wed Jan 09, 2008 6:19 pm

My dd's team is playing in the Dragon Dome this weekend. http://www.dragonsdome.com/index.aspx Anyone else going to be there? WE have a very tough draw. We're playing the Southern Force. They have a young lady that throws mid 60s and is already considered one of the top pitchers in the nation. She's a sophomore this year. I'm reasonably sure some of the posters on this site have seen her throw. Her last name is Coonce. To quote one area high school coach, "Coonce could play 99% of the high schools in Illinois with 5th graders on defense and win. She's that dominant." He made that quote last year when she was a freshman. LOL! I told my girl, we're going to have a lot of fun. It's these kind of challenges that make the sport exciting.

I am from central IL, so I did a google search. I see she is Kaley Koonce and her sister is a Georgia Bulldog. She plays so far south in IL, that I am not even familiar with her sister. There are some nice articles about them on the Internet.

Good luck in Pekin.

I played my ASA ball in Casey.

Wow, two responses. I'm surprised. Missouri Stealth, perhaps we will get a chanced to meet. I'm betting we already have since I think my DDs played against the Stealth a lot at 14U. My girl will be the ugly one. (She gets mad when I say that! :o  ) She wears #25 for the Tomahawks.

Yes, we did ok in that one. We played the Missouri Pride the 1st game and oru #1 was hit by a line drive. She was unable to pitch the rest of the tournament. My dd is our #2 and she did well against the Black Widows and a couple of other teams.

You'll enjoy the Dragon Dome. There are a couple of tricky rules and the umps have to be on the ball of popups to determine if they are fair or foul. Also, there is a point on the infield where a popup can hit in play and you're fielders will have a hard time seeing the ball. That shouldn't be bad at night. Warming up is also tricky and so, root your way to one of the practice areas and pitch your camp. Otherwise, you'll be swamped by all of the teams trying to practice in between games. They did do a good job last year making sure that those spots were available to the teams getting ready to play. Good Luck!

Know one of the Chaos pitchers and if your batters don't figure out her pitches you will be in trouble. She can hit the ball too.
