It was already organized. The fields were set up, the teams were ready to go, and everyone knew what was going on. Then, someone decides to pull the plug. Why? There is just no reason for it.

I don't know why but if the plug got pulled and there are 11 year olds in need of Kleenex, it's not like you need VTD to play. Make some calls. The fact that the teams are ready to go should make it easy to pull something together in a few days time. All you need is fields and umpires.

You need insurance also. Without sanctioning, ASA will not assist with any potential claims with players or umpires. I believe Larry has it worked out where Bollinger or some other will insure the tournament.

I was thinking about that too. So in order for Bollinger to cover, it must be sanctioned? So are our DDs not covered at practice?

I assume so if you are a registered ASA team. However, with a tournament I believe the sanctioning body dictates your insurability, for teams and umpires. I know that in FW, some have been told that even friendlies must be sanctioned if you want everyone covered.

I know there were quite a few friendlies posted in the past that were later removed from bulletin boards. Now if it was ans ASA insurance issue or an ASA money issue(not being able to charge sanctioning fees), I don't know...don't care really.

I always assumed you couldn't post friendlies because VTD/ASA couldn't make any money off of it. I suppose the liability with regards to insurance makes sense though.
