The point is that you can't have pitchers looking like hockey goalies...they shouldn't have to. Why would MLB mandate the use of wood bats when they are the only ones doing it? They do it for the safety of the pitchers...why wouldn't we do something similar...?

MLB polices itself in limiting pitches to protect the pitchers' arms. Softball does nothing.

It seems to be a pattern with softball....to hell with the pitchers.

There isn't data on the injuries sustained by softball pitchers, so I have my own perception of the frequency of these injuries. It may not be accurate, but it is my own perception.

Sam. I have always respected your posts, going back to the eteamz days, but this latest diatribe is getting ridiculous. Time to step back and regain your perspective instead of being the old guy yelling at the kids to get off his lawn.
As far as Tumblebug is concerned I am surprised he has allowed himself to be drawn in to this level of discussion being that he represents a manufacturer in this segment.

This could be a really interesting discussion:

The reality is that technology exists to make bats that are patently unsafe. Manufacturers, at least as I understand, are not producing the hottest bats that they are capable of, they are producing bats that are the hottest allowed by whatever the guidelines are for the respective markets. That means humans (in committee, no less) are trying to determine the safety specifications for these bats using testing data that is difficult to apply to game situations, and (hopefully) continually integrating carefully recorded and analyzed injury histories, and weighing all of this against optimal game play conditions. It's not going to be perfect, but they seem to be doing a reasonable job in FP, and making adjustments as needed.

The ad hominem attacks really detract from the discussion. If I want to read that crap (and sometimes I do) I'll go check in on how things are going in the NW Texas threads. I've got 2 dds that pitch, and play 3rd, They also hit with high end bats, including RT, so I've got interest in both sides of the equation. They're also young (97 and 99) and our experience is limited compared to those who are contributing here. The input is valuable, but filtering out the crab is cumbersome.

Not sure if this was where Skarp was going when he linked GNR's "Civil War", but certainly "what we have here is a failure to communicate".

Here's a simple solution for you Sam:

Start a wooden bat league. Mandate masks and limit pitcher's innings.

I'm sure there are thousands... err, hundreds... err, dozens of families out there who feel the current game is too dangerous and will line up for miles... err, a block... err, around the registration table, to sign up.

And good luck. You should have ample evidence to prove your point in no time at all... err, a few years... err, never?
