PGF/ASA Nationals 16U

by ICMTM » Thu Nov 29, 2012 1:50 pm

Are there any teams out there trying to qualify for both National tournaments? Word is that 16U PGF is the week prior to ASA Nationals in Sunnyvale.

This will be interesting. Watch how many kids playing 18 for PGF will be dropping down to play 16u for ASA nationals that week

IMO , having the ASA 16U Nationals "local" is totally cool for probably every 16's team in NorCal. Save them big time money and still be able to experience a National, and at same time possibly go deep in to the week, as I dont think too many "top" teams will try and take on both ASA and Premier Nationals. Will there be teams going to both probably more so this year as its in CA, and thats insane IMO. I am NOT a fan of playing in both, its WAY to much wear and tear on a kid. Now teams that are 18-20 deep without much drop off and 4 solid pitchers (sure go for it), but who has that. Now playing in both qualifiers, you betya but, to play in both Championships, its just too much on a kid and coachs need to take that into consideration, plus IF your having to stay in Hotel it will KILL parents financially and 90% of parents cant take off 14 straight days.

With that said, if your a Top Tier 16's team (not sure who that is in Norcal), go to Premier and fight it out with the best, everybody else who wants to save money and play locally, do the Twin Creeks National, have fun and maybe go deep in the week!

Don't forget a team has to "qualify" for ASA Nationals also. Sure a little easier than PGF perhaps but the team still has to win it's way into that tourney. Unlike Westerns where playing in associations qualifies them.

Would some of top 14's in Nor Cal play in this too?

Sure they do, and qualifiers are GREAT, as they turn into "must win" situations and that is great for kids and in NorCal, Metro's are small and not taxing on kids, I say do both (PGF/ASA) if you can.

WHY? I sure the hell hope not, (i know SoCal A's 16's did something similar last year and did well) but, dammit what happens when your #1 starts experiencing arm problems late in the week, you keep playing, do you pull the plug and go down to PGF with an ailing #1, just not a good idea too many bad things can happen and only a couple good things.JMHO
