A twist on ASA versus others question

by ksadad » Mon Jan 09, 2012 12:52 pm

At 10U and 12U, where would you place your DD?
Solid ASA "B" team/program with good coaching or non ASA "A" ball in SF Bay Area?
Would love to hear from those who have been there and done that?

Great B programs in the Bay Area. I'd go out on a limb and say this B program you're referring too would be more competative than a non ASA A tam and you know about their coaching. There are many poor ASA A teams in our area and some that seldom play ASA tournaments. Stay with the program you know, unless your DD can make a legit ASA A team/program.

IMO, forget the sanction, A, B, and area. My opinion would be what is left...
Solid team/program with good coaching

You cannot replace good coaching, when your DD is just starting out.

I agree with Swing it. If your daughter is coming out of rec and will be her first year of travel ball, the most important thing for her is to have a good coach that will teach her the game. You will have to consider that whether you decide to play "A" or "B" ball that our schedules are much different. Last year alone our team played over 70 games in spring/summer. That is a long season and a lot of games!!!

Granted, your DD will get the opportunity to play alot of games, but to combine that schedule with GOOD coaching.....just gives your DD the ability to become a better all around player.

The last thing that a parent wants is for their player to be forgotten about on the bench if she were to go to an "A" team and isn't provided the coaching to make her better. You will have to decide/evaluate what level your DD is at and what level of dedication she is willing to give to the coach/team. That goes for you as parents too!!! Bustling your DD to practice 2-3 times a week, playing 2-3 tournaments every weekend...to include out of town tournaments.

I wish you and your DD the best of luck!!! It is important that her first year of travel/comp ball is a positive experience for both her and the parents as this level will demand much more of your time, dedication, heart and determination!!
