Rumor or Truth?? Got a call this morning that said Kelly Jackson was removed as JO Commissioner. Is this true and if it is why???

That was the first thing I said when I received the call this morning was that it was a "conflict of interest". But has she not been running that Academy for a while??

Not only running the school, but sponsoring teams participating in the metro which she governs. From what it sounds like in the announcement, there is still a conflict. Player development? Only if they attend her school.

GSSA announces that Kelly Jackson has accepted a new role with the organization. Effective March 15th, 2011, Kelly will now be responsible for player and coach development. This will be a new position within the organization working with Commissioner Jeff Dubchansky. Kelly's former position, Junior Olympic Commissioner will not be immediately filled. The Greater Sacramento Softball Association will organize a search committee and conduct an interview process at a time later this year in order to fill the position. In days long gone by, DD played for a team and we asked the coach if he wanted to be copied on emails to coaches or just lists of coaches being contacted and the reply was (paraphrasing): "You don't need to do that, just get in the College Prep program and they'll take care of everything."

We kept doing all the things we were told to do by others. Eventually led to parting ways because we didn't comply with the off field instructions. Oh yeah, when we asked to have DD's GPA corrected on the team profile sheet (was typo'd much lower than it was) we were also told that grades didn't matter - too much trouble to fix it and print them out again.

Oh well ... just glad we knew better. There were others that took the advice.

Are you pointing a finger at a certain someone or just letting everyone know of your journey?

Im sure he was telling a story of his journey. We have all been at that point. When your kid is young and you as a parent are dumb, you fall in to the trap of schools such as this. You can go to any softball field in the area and hear similar stories. I dont have an axe to grind here either, it is what it is, however dumb that saying is. Leaving college recruiting to anyone other than yourself is just not a good idea. Nor is joining the college prep program. UNLESS, your kid is marginal at best, she will find someone for you SOMEWHERE! You just may never have heard of the school or the city for that matter. Even as someone who doesnt really care for that whole thing, she does serve a purpose and she does get kids to college , which we all are seeking as an ultimate goal. It really depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. She is no different than any other instructor in the area. You give it a try, you see its not working, and you try another. The travel team in question, is ridiculous. If any head coach ever said anything like that to any kid I knew, I would say... RUN!

We were on a team that was not directly affiliated with the school - maybe, technically the present teams aren't either - 6 years ago.

I am just stating the advice we got at the time and that I think it wasn't in our DDs' best interest.

There are definite logistic advantages - scheduling, reliability, etc to getting instruction there. As watch said, you try it - if it works, fine - if not, you move on.
