Now that ASA looks to be keeping 14u distance at 40 ft. what are the other orgs going to do? Anyone have any inside info on this?

In the Sac Area, it will not have a big impact.

Those who play ASA will stay ASA and those who play the lesser will stay there as well.

Do we even know if Utrip is moving to 43 ft?? Maybe not for Sac but the Bay teams who play DF and Utrip as well as ASA will have a struggle on whether they want to yoyo btw oranizations bc of the pitching distance. I actually think ASA pulled a coup staying at 40 Ft beyond doing the right thing in my opinion.

14s staying at 40ft is going to reduce the amount of good pitchers at 14u. It just will. The good 14u pitchers will play jv or varsity in high school and have to pitch from 43ft anyhow. So it will be regressing. Other than that , its not a huge move. ASA is definately starting to irritate a lot of people. At some point they will have to address their National events. People are done with the extended tournaments and hotel stays. The older groups will likely play Premier and stay close to home. Why go to Oklahoma or Tennessee only to play a california team likely in the top 10 anyways? I dont see a big deal with playing ASA if the teams that are there are top notch. Plenty of big events that are not 'ASA'. People are drawn to the competition level not the organization per say.

14u at 43 ft is a mistake. For every stud that pitches Varsity as a Freshman, there are 8-10 kids that still need a lot of work to become a solid pitcher.

It wasnt all that long ago that 18u was at 40ft... now we will ask 12 year olds moving up to pitch from 43 ft in the fall????

Stupid.

And let the shoulder problems begin. From 11 to 14/15 there are some huge physiological changes taking place in these young ladies. Just had this discussion with another coach at a recent tourney (she used to pitch in the Pac-10) and we both agreed it is injuries waiting to happen.

I'm still hoping someone from DF, Utrip or NSA will chime in on what their plans are come Jan 1st.

But to me I think leaving things at 40ft. at 14s is a better play. It makes the 16's a more viable age group and will allow for MOST girls to go through the age progression as it should be intended. There will be those who will jump straight from 14's to 18G..talent and physical development will dictate that(and a few overzealous parents). Now with the advent of 16's showcase events there will still be plenty of exposure for those girls who progress along in their appropriate age level.

I think this will also help avoid those girls still maturing physically(they're all ticking little bombs emotionally at this age) from added risk to injury. But overuse at any age without proper training is probably a bigger cause for injury..I'm no MD but that's JMO.
