NorCal Top 12U Teams

@realtalk- I will bet you a cold beverage that more teams than what earn a birth here in Sac will get into PGF. All you have to do is pick up the phone and ask. Take a look at last years PGF and see how many local teams went but didn't earn a birth.

Wow it's becoming that easy now to get into PGF...a simple phone call? I've been around this game for awhile...so will ASA Nationals become the big thing again?

The easy answer is NO!! This really depends on your team’s goals and to a degree your geographical area. I truly believe as long as ASA Nationals continue to be rotated around the Midwest & Southern regions of the country, you will no longer receive the support of the Western state teams in 12-U, 14-U, & 16-U. When my oldest DD teams played, ASA Nationals carried the entire softball weight of the world. Now that PGF Nationals has formed & prospered within the last 3-4 years, ASA Nationals no longer has that prestige it once had. There are many reasons for this. One MAIN reason is it is financially easier on the Western traveling teams and the competition as a whole might be better as well now. ASA Nationals: Airplane flight across the country (somewhere), Rental Car & Hotel…..PGF Nationals: Your own Car driving to Huntington Beach & Hotel (maybe)…..and that’s just the basics. If you live in the surrounding areas of PGF in So Cal……well that’s easy math ($$). Also I believe that the two events are running on the same week. I liked & still love ASA as I was exposed to a lot!!…….but in this case the GRA$$ and $and is much “GREENER” and “SANDIER” by the Pacific Ocean.

Wow!! Quite a discussion relating to the rankings of 12U teams in Nor Cal.
I coach Central Coast Athletics and we have played some of these teams in the fall, spring friendlies, and tournaments this spring. I have not seen or played against all teams, but will give my two cents about the teams I have played against or seen.

1) San Jose Sting
2) Foothill Gold
3) LTG Lions
4) CA Breeze
5) Salinas Storm
6) Nor Cal Firecrackers
7) Team California
*Just outside Top 10: Central Coast Athletics- We have played everyone tough so far, but we have yet to beat a quality team from Nor Cal.
We have the potential to be there and are working hard to have a long, enjoyable spring and summer!!

These rankings are not based on performance so far this spring. They are based on how each team performed against us and ultimately how I think these teams stack up against one another.

I have been impressed with the quality of play we have seen so far this Spring!! There are a lot of talented players filling all of these rosters. It is fun for me as a coach to see the level of competition we get to enjoy every weekend.
Also, I have enjoyed learning from some of the coaches and the high level they are able to bring their athletes to!

I know people are going to get on here and talk about this team did this and this team is that. But I would like to give some props to the CF #1 I believe from SJ Sting had a phenomenal diving catch tonight! Great play! Keep it up young lady. Also congrats to the Sting on the win.

What happened at Best of the Best this weekend?
Did a few top 10 teams get eliminated by an honorable mention. Guess you're too embarrassed to talk about it
BTW-saw the Sting CF catch & it should have been on ESPN Highlights

Props to both teams yesterday it was a fun game to watch.Both teams played there butts off congrats to Sting . But great Job KG I think they surprised a lot of teams.

I got to watchthe second half of the KG and Sting game Sat. Great game both teams were putting up solid defense. KG came out with the win. Looking at Sundays score it looks like game was more of a battle of offence. Congrats to both teams. It was good to see a lot of the top teams go head to head on Sunday. Great weekend of softball.

I know Sting swept the competition and banged all weekend!

Would have been nice to see NC Firecrackers, CC Dirtdogs and Salinas Storm there not to sure why they didn't show up.

That is a very talented list of 01 teams for sure. I can't recall in recent years there being that many quality teams in 12U who can all beat each other on any given day. AASA Richardson should be on that list in place of CC Athletics. Toot your horn after you beat someone.
