Actually, I've heard his name tossed around as a possible asst. coach on the National team. Now wouldn't that be a coup for LM? A connection to UofA and Team USA.

No I understand completely why the post, and why the pres. posted what he did. I know these guys but staying objective to the community, I can see why people would be offended. Thats my only take really. I just dont buy the well So Cal does this all the time, or whats wrong with it? Nothing is WRONG with it, but doesnt mean its tasteful, if I'm looking at it objectively. Look at it this way......if you had NO stake in softball whatsoever and saw a post like this, how would you perceive it?
And I get that Candrea is is a big name....but he is not his father, so lets slow down just a bit.
Also, the LM team is already a pretty good team. If LM wins nationals (hypothetically) and Candrea puts National Champions with LM on his resume...is it warranted? Really? See I dont buy in to that. The team is already good, has some pretty good hitters/kids. SO again, just posing some questions and trying to look at it objectively. Not saying anyone is wrong here, just playing devils advocate.

Holy CRap... you mean a couple of people can disagree and discuss a topic without someone calling the other person a pr... This is what this place should be about.

I will give you some opposing views and we can go from there. We assume everyone in Norcal knows all the teams, there history, who coaches them and so on, but that is not the reality.

I started the Monarchs last Fall and I can not tell you how many umpires, coaches would ask us where we were from or who we were. And I was a little puzzled as I just assumed people in our area would know... but that just isnt so. The fact we had a meager turn out in Fall and a rather large turnout for Spring/Summer made that point to me loud and clear. So since LM has a name like Candrea (and I will admit it aint THE Candrea) but it is a selling point for their program. So why not put it out there so people know?

The big organizations that have been around a long time definitely have an advantage, but there is always some young whipper snapper trying to start up and make a move.. Wink Wink, so even the Yankees better keep attracting players or the Devil Rays will be chomping on their butts.

It just seem to be that big of a deal to me, and as far as offending people? Hell, Im sure if Jesus showed up tomorrow there would be plenty of offended people:)

This thread is somewhat humorous. One side wanting to, at least initially, make a big deal out of a batting cage hitting instructor helping with their team, the other side saying why is this on here, this is no big deal. I have to side with the latter. First, this is Mike Candrea's son, not Mike Candrea. His dad gave him a job as a volunteer assistant at Arizona. He also served a stint as an assistant, either volunteer or paid, at Pacific. But, for whatever reason, he is no longer coaching at the collegiate level. More recently he has instructed at Sacramento and Stockton batting cages and was recently listed as the hitting coach for the CA Yard Sharks. I think that it is admirable that he now gives his time to the LM 14s. Something to crow about on here? Not so much. The claim that he may some day be a coach with the national team is silly, unless his dad still has the juice to place him there as he did at Arizona. The way the national team is currently being funded, however, it may soon be looking for a volunteer staff. To say that this appointment gives LM a possible connection to U of A softball is a major leap. At least three NorCal Gold teams have had players performing at the U of A in recent years. That is a real, tangible connection. I agree with those who say this belongs on the LM website.

THAT would be news! Hey Blue .....I have to admit navy and red is much better than your Lakers colors. You could look good in LM gear!
Since were on the subject or maybe were not.....why that color choice? Or should I start a new thread, lol. Mike probably wants this thread to just GO AWAY!

When I read this post, I kind of sat their and thought....."OK?????" I would expect that some announcement for all of Nor Cal to see would be one of a coach with a stacked amount of accolades. No offense to Candrea's son, but.....he is Candrea's son....not Candrea. He was an assistant at AZ, but is there anyone that thinks that was based on merit. If it were, then why wouldn't a coach who coached under Candrea, with any last name, be coaching at a good program right now?

But you can't be mad at the attempt to better an organization. I am just not sure if this makes them better or will cause some inner conflict.
