It's a blind draw for the metro brackets done by the coaches themselves picking out of a hat so there isn't much opportunity to play RR. (!)

talked to some friends and heard the Breeze 98 received a berth with a 1-2 record in OKC because 4 other teams turned it down....doesn't make sense that team can qualify for the best tournament of the year with that performance.

I saw on Breeze website that the 12u are bound for Nationals. I guess that is one way to get in. The 96 Breeze said all along they were playing in Stockton. Why didn't they register? Is Sacto an easier road? More teams but no Grapes...You shouldn't get to pick/choose your metro.

You don't do it properly, you don't make it in. Plain and simple. There is a precendence for this with All American Sports Academy a few years back in 12's as I recall. They didn't make it in time and they were forced to wait until the National Qualifier after the Regional tournament to try to qualify.

But when you have connections higher up and you make some phone calls, you get special treatment. Wouldn't be surprised if they were to win, that someone in Sac Metro lodges a rules violation protest at the National level.

One MUST play in the Metro where the largest number of players reside and for them, it's San Joaquin. They didn't register in time, they shouldn't be allowed to play.

Seems like that's how the Breeze org. works. I recall them last year not winning a Metro or any quaifier but still ended up with a berth to nationals. Must be nice to just buy your way in. IMO not a good way to teach the players. Earn it like everyone else. If I was a coach in Sac Metros I would protest them being there. They could be taken a berth that you could have. Let them play in Stockton or chase the berth thru regionals. If miss the deadline or can't figure out where your players live as to which metro should I play in. That should not be our problem...

Not true for everyone. ASA Code has an exception that allows teams to register in a neighboring association by mutual consent of the commisioners. I'm not familiar with the counties up there - is it possible they did it within ASA Code?

C. Team Eligibility.
01. Team Registration. A team must register with the local association in
which the greatest number of its’ players reside, and this number must be
retained for the remainder of the season.

EXCEPTION: Teams in an adjoining county to a state or metro association
may register with either the state or the metro association by mutual consent
of the State/Metro Commissioner’s involved.

I think there is usually space for more teams than there are berths that are "earnable" (this does not apply to Gold which is limited to 64 teams). I know one year, back when older DD was playing 16s, we didn't win our metro. We went to regionals and didn't qualify. After all the qualifiers were done nationally, they just starting working their way down in order of finish and added more teams from various regionals. I think we came in 8th in our regional but ended up going to Nationals.

I'm sure this was strictly altruism on the part of ASA - to give more girls the opportunity for life enhancement - and nothing to do with additional revenue generated by inviting an extra 40 or 50 teams.

Saw that too, except it does not specifically say they may register in either association - note that it only says they "may register with either the state or the metro association... " Does this actually mean in some vague way that an organization may opt to register in eith org? Does it mean they may come from a neighboring county if they have no org of their own?
Typically beauracratic BS language that is really vague!

The problem here is that this team was trying to get into the Sac Metro earlier and was denied, then they didn't get registered in the proper one in time. Was this an oversight or was it intentional so as to give them additional leverage when re-trying to get into the Sac Org.

Look, that team isn't a shoe-in to win Metros. They do have their work cut out but it's frustrating to see this occuring as it really smells like someone trying to manipulate the system. And as mentioned before, teams that had an honest shot at a berth may wind up losing on account of this team being allowed to play where they seemingly shouldn't be.
